You have no objective data to back up the above 2 claims either. What's really frustrating is that you complain your album isn't getting more attention (or is better than my album, whatever) when you did a shit job of even remotely hyping your album. I love The Antlers and this specific album but I dislike the way you've handled this thread and if I were any of the other member, I'd definitely take that into account. |
That's completely fair, although I wasn't being completely serious with the comment on Cosmogramma, I do think it is a great album. I did kind of do a shit job hyping it, and I've always had a hard way putting into words why an album as great, more just how I feel about. I posted a bit too much about nothing in this thread and I realize that now, I just fanboy over The Antlers too much. I understand why you'd be pissed in that case and it is completely fair for you have a written that comment, despite the actual contents of the comment. I'm sorry for how I handled this thread, hope we can be good with each other from now on and I'll do a better job of promoting my albums from now on in the tournament.

Experimental electronica has to always be striving to do what people haven't done before...otherwise it won't fall under that category...it'll just come under one of the many many many electronica sub-genres.
Thinking more on it, since I've attempted both....it probably is equal if you're looking at the quality of it...but then that probably goes for most genres...except hip-hop which would be a damn sight harder...but maybe that's just because I can't rap...ramblingramblingrambling...
also even though I'd said I'd voted for Cosmogramma before I only just voted for it...so the distance groooows...
also also I think this is each respective artist's best work. |
It's exactly that simplicity that makes it harder, though. Pop/Rock has so many imitations that the challenge is to create something new and exciting from the very basic guidelines. Of all Indie Pop albums, Burst Apart is ranked highly on this site because it's been done well in spite of countless other indie pop attempts.
You say Hip-Hop is a darn sight harder, and I'd agree, but again that's because, at it's very core, is one of the most simple genres. Hip Hop really only consists of a beat and rhythmic spoken word - that's child's play, anyone can do that, and that's why there's a hell of a lot of awful rap out there. But when an artist is able to take that core and make an interesting, detailed beat matched with pentameter that flows well with the beat and has clever lyrics and rhymes, then you get great hip hop.
Whenever we have 'overrated' artist threads on BEA, Pop/Rock artists are always the names the pop up - people don't hate on experimental electronic music, or classical, or avant garde stuff etc. That's because the guidelines are so much higher, and there's much less competition. People will often listen to weirder stuff without questioning it's quality because it's open to interpretation; not that there's anything wrong with that. Just looking through this thread, not a single person has said a bad thing about Flying Lotus, yet if it was an equally popular Pop/Rock record, I think there would a greater split in opinion.

It's not arguing, it's a discussion - which, at least for me, is the reason I'm here on the forums. There's nothing asinine about that.

fair enough and well argued. It is pretty much I said at the end of my paragraph, if we're talking about good quality stuff then most genre's are generally comparable.
and I agree well reasoned discussion ftw.

You have a point...It wasn't that I wanted to halt discussion, discussion is great, I just didn't want to it to turn into an argument or anything. It didn't come off that way, I see now. I'm sorry about that.

That's the best way to end a matchup; puns.

I think this a good result for the variety of the tournament. And the result I wanted. I like both albums, but I think Cosmogramma is considerably better than Burst Apart.
