Things Fall Apart because it's a classic. Resurrection is a strong piece of Common lyricism but I prefer the beats on Like Water For Chocolate and of course, Be.

I do enjoy things fall apart but I've always found it to be horrendously overrated. There are at least 3 or 4 Roots albums I prefer and I'm not too big of a Roots fan to begin with, (unless they're working with Dilla beats. Then I'm all over that shit). Not a huge Common fan either but Resurrection is easily his best where he hits that very tiny and hard to hit point of being notably conscious without coming across as preachy or patronizing. Common gets my vote for this round

With DBZ's sentiment about there being several better Roots albums than Things Fall Apart, although I do enjoy it and think as a group they have some pretty phenomenal stuff. That said, going with Resurrection here, super enjoyable, thoughtful stuff.

I don't care if this was The Root's worst album. At least it has a pulse. (and tbh I think it's quite great.)

My definition of of torture: Common littering his songs with snatches of lyrics from far better artists throughout this album. Yeah, I know he's paying homage. I just find it boring & predictable. *Yawn*
