Yeah same, Philips as a company, I really don't like, before these headphones I kind of thought they sucked, but they really stepped up their game with this particular pair. Also that price on amazon is currently one of their "almost out of stock deals" so if you want that one, i'd get em now. I have a good amount of experience with bose, my dad has 3 or 4 pairs. The active noise cancellation is great, like, really really good, but quality wise, I don't think they offer good enough sound for the price. That's a problem I've always had with active noise cancelling, that they offer slightly more cancellation, for a drastic drop in sound quality.

Hmm.. that's interesting. I'm not in the market for a new pair of headphones at the moment, but when my pair are in a state of disrepair I'll be sure to check out Philips and maybe some other brands who I wouldn't have thought made good headphones. My current (Bose) pair were kind of a spur of the moment buy, and I haven't had a problem with them yet, but next round I'll definitely shop around (since now I'm more knowledgeable about music as well as the physics and electronics involved in the process behind music listening). Thanks for the suggestion.

I wouldn't recommend Philips headphones that aren't the Citiscape Uptowns, they seem to be the exception to the rule, they're the only decent Philips I've tried. But you can always PM me if you want more info and stuff.
