- Post subject: Having no album rating and only song ratings..
|
Hi there,
Just an idea but I think that there should be no album rating option, just the option to rate each song in the album and the overall album rating should be considered on the average rating of all the songs in the album, therefore, albums like alt j's an awesome wave with an okay album rated score of 77 would actually have a much fairer reflection of a score of 82 (as the average score of all the songs is 82) and I am sure there are other albums with this frustration of having a high song average score but a low album average score making the album appear better than it really is, or vice versa.as a result, I think this would give a better reflection on how good the album is and improve song ratings as more people would vote for songs....

This idea is terrible. I like to rate albums as complete pieces; an album's worth is not solely dependent on the quality of the songs within it, but in how they work together, in the order they were intended to be listened to, in how the album works as a whole. The ebb and flow of an album is just as important as the songs it holds.

I've seen people rate an album 85, then rate all 15 tracks on the same album 85. That's kinda messed up. _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold

Yea this idea's pretty bad.
I assume the reason for this dependency between the songs ratings and the albums, is just that people who like the album, are far more likely to individually rate each song than people who didn't. I know if I didn't enjoy an album i'll just forget about it and move onto the next one, but if I really love one I'll probably go rate each song during another listen through.

We've had a similar idea before but an album isn't just a sum of all the parts.

Terrible idea on many levels. one of them I would like to share because nobody did is that some albums contains "skits" which they are rated usually low but barely affects the listener's mind on the album.
