Damn good soul/funk LP, contains the immortal "Hard Times".
The cover looked fun, so I checked out his Wikipedia page, and his story isn't quite as fun as his face. Still, I'm interested in the LP. Just added it to my favorites on Deezer to check it out later. Thanks 😄
Sally Nyolo is from Cameroon, but sometimes sings in French (though most of the tracks are sung in Eton), and she once was part of Zap Mama, if you've ever heard of them. Her solo output is better than anything Zap Mama did. Traditional western/central African folk music, with a little soul to it.
Not gonna have time to listen to the whole thing this morning but I'll listen to as much as I can because watching Salad Fingers the other day put me in the mood for this, lol.
Think I might join you, haven't listened for about a year. Let me know what you think.
Wasn't totally blown away, the beats were solid and she's no doubt a great MC - the biggest appeal was probably her take on conscious hip-hop, and it was refreshing to hear thoughts from a female rapper (which I haven't actually heard thinking about it now). The verses from male rappers actually took a lot away from it, I think.
It was clever and consistent, but nothing immediately grabbed me. I'll definitely be listening to it again, if only to hear was Grae has to say.
I quite like Sheet Music, and of course, like everybody normally built, I'm a sucker for "I'm Not In Love". However, that "Paris" suite is awfully hard to take, feels like I'm listening to "Bohemian Rhapsody" and its criticism at the same time.
Not totally convinced by this one. Some passages are beautiful (that one between 14' and 16' and then the next) but some others are more frankly jazz-prog oriented, which I can only take for so many minutes.
EDIT: the second half is really beautiful.
