the thought of a Grimes-assisted Kitty Pryde album is driving me up the wall, hopefully 2014 just works itself out and there is a lot of weird, wonderful surprises along the way

I think Grimes contributions were removed from the album actually ๐Ÿ™

Still, Flowerviolence is gonna be dabest. And plus, I believe Carly Rae's got something coming out next year as well.

Aside from the likes of Panda Bear, Slasher Flicks and Joanna Newsom (which would all be pretty swell, natch), it's about time The Fireworks, Alpaca Sports and September Girls (see vid below) all released their respective debut LPs.

I would have also said the new Dum Dum Girls album Too True, but Dee Dee's sounding more and more like Chrissie Hynde with every release. Not impressed, sadly.

So I've kinda reached double-figures for 2014 albums already... ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Anyway, I thought I would share some of my favourites with you, as I've heard some great albums already.

Burn Your Fire For No Witness by Angel Olsen. I already completely love this album. It has simply magnificent song-writing, whether it's the punkish Forgiven/Forgotten or the mellow and folky White Fire. It's simply one of the best indie albums I've heard in a while.

Give the People What They Want by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Soul and funk at it's best, and the album gets better and better as it goes along. I don't think anyone could hear this and not like it.

Try Me by Self Defence Family. I reckon the two 20 minute long spoken word songs will polarise opinions but, don't get me wrong, the rest of the album is fantastic post-hardcore, albeit more melodic than usual music of that genre. It's a very creative and unique, and I think it's superb.

Abandoned Apartments by Jeremy Jay. Darkish synth pop. Reminds me a bit of the xx.

Haerfest by Alor. Dark Folk in the style of Agalloch, but more mellowed.

Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything by Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-la-la Band. Intense and dynamically brilliant post-rock.

And that's just the best of what I've heard- ie. these albums are all seriously excellent. I enjoyed all the other albums I heard as well, so 2014 has certainly started off promising to me.

Ok, not sure if anyone mentioned this yet (and I'm too lazy to go through the entire thread again), but Stephanie Dosen [Massive Attack] and Simon Raymonde [Cocteau Twins] created a new project, a band which they're calling Snowbird. Their first release is in half a month --- January 14th --- called moon.

The beautiful image matches the music --- here's one of the releases, "Porcelain":

Super excited now! xD
