This might be even better than 2012's fantastic The Cherry Thing (and fuck everybody who says she hasn't released an album in 18 years - a covers album made in collaboration with an occasionally atonal Scandinavian free jazz trio is still a fucking album). Cherry has always been fantastic at making accessible, genre-hopping music that simultaneously flirts with and sticks two fingers up at contemporary pop trends, and this is no different. I'm also really digging this rhythmic, somewhat metallic sound that Four Tet has been working on (his last album, Beautiful Rewind, inexplicably flew below seemingly everybody's radar, despite being one of the best things I heard all year and arguably his strongest record yet), and here he finds the perfect balance between it and something a little more polished and poppy for Cherry to do her thing over. It's a really satisfying record, and after seeing Pitchfork's respective scores for this and St. Vincent's latest I can't help but think they got them the wrong way round. Highly recommended.
Probably my third favorite nom so far, after mine and Squishy's. Maybe on par with Irish's, too. Kinda like The Strokes, except more entertaining and taking themselves less seriously, and God knows I really love the Strokes. An absolute gem, thanks PJ :)
I don't recall Irish nominating anything, but yeah, this was one of my favorites of the tournament.
