I liked the LaMontagne record. I'm nowhere near a fan, but it was cool. I'd say it was a bit too middle ground, though. With, you know, a good voice but not too much, some instruments but not too much, a guitar solo here and there but not too much, etc. It either lacks edges orcas too many of them, somehow. Mmmh. But I like it, definitely. It's just easier to formulate reproaches I think ๐Ÿ˜œ Thanks for this one, it'll get a few more spins obviously, anyway, so maybe my opinion will evolve!

His sound grows a lot of depth through later records, but I figured you'd appreciate the sort of soulful minimalist folk thing Ray is doing on Trouble to give a good introduction to him and such yknow?

Well I'm definitely interested in his other albums, and I like starting with debuts so it's cool ^_^ I'm not sure I'd call it minimalistic, though. Definitely soulful, but when I think of minimalist if folk, I'm more thinking about Nick Drake, Josรฉ Gonzalez or Bon Iver. Or maybe I'm confusing minimalistic and intimate? It never felt like there was a sonic void anywhere, I mean ๐Ÿค”

Nick Drake is definitely more minimalist, almost deconstructive in approach yeah. What I mean with Ray and minimalist is that his sound isn't that "full" or having grandiose instrumental depth (such as Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, etc).

Ah, yes, OK, definitely then.

A lot of good pop going on here that reminds me of early Whitney Houston or Patti Austin if they were directed/produced by Texas. A weird comparison, I know, but itโ€™s what comes to mind. This one was rather nice, I liked the smoothness of the production valuesโ€”and the record overall but Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™d say itโ€™s a new favorite or something.

Flying saucer attack self titled.

Despite an atmosphere I would go so far as to describe as damn good, clear reference to influences in a variety of genres I love (shoegaze, krautrock, space rock, neo-psychedelia), and nice melodic textures, the album failed to grip me and shake me around the way my favorites of its kind do. I'm all for a long-haul drone, and I'm all for some fuzzy pop, but this seemed to occupy a "meh" space on both counts. Don't take that as too harsh a criticism, though - it's one of the better things I've heard recently and I'm glad I sat down with it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Fairly good screamo demo here, makes me wish they had a proper chance at a higher fidelity though since there's a lot of good stuff going on here but it makes it not the most fun to listen to when the drums pop your headphones due to the sound quality, haha. Tons potential on this demo.

Wouldn't be surprised if you've heard this before though.
