Thursday is really good. I have heard of Glassjaw previously, but I don't think I've given them a chance previously so I'll listen to them.
I never liked them but when Thrice was getting big i knew a lot of people were also really into Poison the Well.
I always thought Hot Water Music sounded quite a bit like Jawbox.

Poison the well is a fun group. Jawbox is one that I've liked before, but I've overlooked them for some time (I like their self titled a lot). I remember Adam Wade being the drummer for The Jealous Sound for some time (one of my favorite bands ever. Ever since I heard them in some video game soundtrack, I fell in love with their music).

Mecca's right. Jawbox is the perfect place to start! if you like that try this next. Takes a few spins but it's a keeper.
How much does a pre-amp factor into sound quality?
Not nearly as much as the rest of your signal chain. If you get a decent Pre-amp(You can find some pretty good stuff in the $50-$100 range) that doesn't have too much signal noise, you'll be set. You'll have to start getting into the $250-$300 range before you start seeing huge increases in quality, and at that point it would be wiser to invest that into somewhere else in your chain.
How do the BEA folks decide and divide up their time whether to listen to a new 2014 album, revisit their favorites or check out older stuff they missed out on.
I find that listening to the latest albums less important than listening to older stuff due to sometimes newer albums being "hyped"a lot whereas older albums that are good stood the test of time to get the status that they have.

Listen to what you feel like listening to, listening to any album is worth your time.

Exactly. Some days I feel like listening to new but new music, and other days all I wanna do is listen to New Kids on the Block on repeat _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
