Interesting. More than anything else, I got major Minutemen vibes from the album. Not sure I like it as much as Light Up Gold, but it sounds pretty dope after a couple of listens.
Yeah, definitely some Minutemen in there too. I find that the recording process that they used makes it sound like a genuine classic 80's record. The title track and Duck & Dodgin have these really fantastic bass lines, I almost found it impossible to stop tapping my foot.
I might need to go give Light Up Gold a second chance sometime soon, I truly didn't think much of it when I heard it apart from Stoned & Starving. _________________ Doubles & Conch

Another Tuesday = another load of new releases. This week is loaded with interesting albums.
New albums from some serious veterans: Buzz Osbourne (Melvins), Hamilton Leithauser (Walkmen), Bob Mould, Echo & The Bunnymen, Andrew Bird, Peter Murphy, Camper Van Beethoven
Fucked Up, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Klaxons, Parquet Courts, Dinowalrus have all piqued my interest as well.
So far, this album is dynamite. Image the Walkmen frontman going full 60s pop crooner (think Gene Pitney and Nilsson).
Andrew Bird sounded good first time through. It's comprised entirely of covers of songs by the Handsome Family.
Echo & The Bunnymen's new one sounds pretty much exactly like you'd expect. It's not bad at all, but lacks that special something that made their 80s records so fantastic.
The new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is similar. Nothing like their incredible debut, but goes down without a fight.
I finally got around to the Ought album after seeing Skinny mention it at some point (i think).
This is a serious album of the year contender. Reminds me a lot of Tim Kinsella (Owls, Capn Jazz, Joan of Arc) fronting a combo of This Heat and The Fall. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Bing Satellites have announced their new album a week or so ago now. It is far too large to download so I'm getting it on CD. 721MB of music it is and divided into 4 parts! Huge! I have no idea what any of it sounds like so if you have patience go for it.

So yesterday I mainly just listened to Open Mike Eagle's latest album, Dark Comedy. It's his best yet, and easily one of the best hip-hop albums so far this year. Could see mecca, SilverWalrus, Squishy, jackwc, Hayden, etc. enjoying it. Naturally, Pitchfork gave it an 8.0. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

The new How To Dress Well is outstanding. Easily his most accessible yet too, you hear almost none of the rawness he had on his debut, and I think this sound works a bit better for him. Going to have to give it a few more listens ๐ _________________ Doubles & Conch
