My personal favourite Quik record, and the best example of the lush, maximalist funk sound he started toying with sometime around 1994 (1995's Safe + Sound is a slightly harder-edged mix of this particular sound and g-funk synths, whilst Balance & Options saw him turning to a subtly more contemporary sound). I'd argue that this is the single best-produced West Coast hip-hop album ever, and quite possibly the most musical hip-hop album from any era or area. It's not as focused as Quik Is The Name, or as lyrically impressive as The Book of David, but it just might be the most quintessentially Quik-ian album of them all. (The reason I prefer Suga Free's Street Gospel to any Quik album is because Suga Free is just much more distinctive rapper, and the pair of them together are as perfect a match as Premier & Guru.) _________________ 2021 in full effect. I thought it was boring the first time a heard this back when it was released. Decided to give it another shot _________________ "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming"
