So, carrying on with this endeavour, I have more decade-y goodness, this time in the shape of - you guessed it! - a 1970s chart. Feel free to have a gander.

Loving these so far, 80's in particular was great, seeing charts like those is genuinely making me consider changing to the 1 album per artist format.

i know how you feel. I just did it with my overall chart, and I'm mostly happier with it, although I don't think I'll do with with the decade charts

The 1 album thing is very hard to do. Choices have to be made along the way ๐Ÿ˜• Take the safe way it easy Patman!

I don't find whittling it down to one album per artist too taxing. Obviously there are some difficult choices (was seriously torn between Another Green World, Music for Airports, and After the Heat, among others), but it's surprisingly easy in most cases. More difficult was giving each year equal credit, if I'm honest. I know that there aren't really any bad years per se, but 1976 (for example) isn't exactly a goldmine. That said, I still love all the albums I picked from that year (I've been listening to Dr. Feelgood's Stupidity a lot recently; just fantastic R'n'B played with passion by a bunch of Essex boys), but I could've easily squeezed in another 1977/78/79 album (or six) ahead of This Is Marijata (not to belittle that album, which wouldn't be far outside the chart regardless of the stipulations I put on it).

I guess in a lot of cases I'd probably find it easy to knock some artists down to one album, though I can see myself struggling at times with others though. I think I'll try implement this system though, I've gotten to the point where I think trying to keep all my charts in sync is a lot more effort than it's worth, plus they're beginning to bore me a bit (There's like 5+ albums by both Bowie and Sabbath on my 70's chart...). My overall chart needs a serious revamp anyway (Dark Side Of The Moon still top 50 when it's been a good 2 years since I threw it on...). Gonna go digging for recs once I finish essays and fix up these charts of mine.

Well I was planning on doing a punk chart soon... So I kinda wanna compare sizes. But, metal is also cool. I think they both are very broad. I had some ideas on how I may break my chart down.

So my vote is Punk.

Oh, it's on Mercury! I'm going to make a Romaine salad out of you. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

hey so I'm just finishing up the first (very rough) draft of my black metal chart. I'm interpreting the genre boundaries very loosely, (basically allowing anything containing more black metal than Alcest's debut). So, before I make it public, I need to know, you think The Mantle is eligible for such a chart?

I think it all depends upon how you yourself interpret the essence of a given genre and then holding true to that for entirety of your chart. I personally like charts that stretch the notion of what a particular (sub) genre is as long as it stays consistent and there's some grounding thought process & framework going on.

I don't think black metal is predominant on that Agalloch release, personally. I wouldn't be mad if I saw it though.
