I know myself that I usually hate the first listen to almost everything except the most immediate music, all the newness and concentrating gives me a headache. ๐คฃ

Each to their own though, obviously.
Haha, some albums can be a chore on the first listen, true. But hopefully you will think that there's something good about it even so, and keep exploring it. It's a wonderful feeling when you realize you've discovered a new (to you) album that you really really like. ๐

I do tend to push on, subsequent listens are more enjoyable for sure. About half of my Top 10 albums were albums that really didn't click with me for maybe as much as the first ten listens but now I obviously adore them. I'm sure that's true for others too, so I suppose it shows that one shouldn't always judge an album by the first listen... unless you happen to be Precedent! ๐คฃ _________________ Top 100 Greatest Music Albums

Good to hear I'm not the only one. And then there are the albums that blow your head off on first (and subsequent) listens, but then fades into oblivion after a year or two. In my case, Soilwork - Natural Born Chaos is the ultimate example, but Muse's Black Holes & Revolutions also qualify. At one time they were both number one albums, now they are way down there! I still like'em, though.
So has anyone else have songs or albums you liked but can't listen now because you associate them with events or periods in your life? :|
1. The first time I listened to Kaleidoscope Dream by Miguel I was in an especially sad and angry mood and to this day, 30+ listens in, I still have a small sense of hesitation when I decide to play it. I also reckon that my enjoyment of the album has been dulled somewhat too, which is a shame.
2. When I first got into Kanye, I really digged him, I would listen to 2-3 Kanye albums per week which is a lot for me for one artist (because I never listen to albums by the same artist on consecutive days). Then I had a series of conversations about him with a close friend of mine, where she pointed out some of the hypocrisy or double-standards present between his life and his lyrics and that has really negatively affected my views about him. I barely listen to one Kanye album a month now, which admittedly is also regrettable. ๐ _________________ Top 100 Greatest Music Albums

Yes. "Dodo" by Danyel Waro (a fantastic maloya singer from Rรฉunion Island - that's in the Indian Ocean), in which Waro repeats "Dodo, mon papa, dodo" ("Go to sleep, daddy, go to sleep") came out a few months before my father died - and I actually discovered the album just after. I can't listen to this song anymore. To be honest, I'm not even sure those are the words he sings, might be the most telling mishearing in history.
