Not that I was expecting anything at all. Maybe it was just the fact that Will Butler played in Arcade Fire that made me gave this album a chance. The result was a pretty bland, generic and forgettable album.
I notice that two posters on this thread who have been disappointed by Bjork's new album are still in their teens... Apologies if this is patronising, but given that Vulnicura is an album about divorce, the break-up of a long term relationship and family, perhaps you're just too young to appreciate some of the content? It's a great companion for the much loved Vespertine in this respect, which is supposed to chart the beginning of the same relationship.
Otherwise, the only real disappointment so far for me is the Belle & Sebastian's effort. I thought the Decemberists' latest was an improvement on their last, and DCFC's new album seems of similar quality to Codes & Keys, which is also decent without being great.

Typically when someone dislikes an album or song with intelligent lyrical content (not that I agree that this album possesses that, I didn't enjoy it much, but I don't enjoy a plethora of Bjork's work), it's the music that they don't like.

I take your point in general, obviously the music itself matters most. In this case I think it isn't so much about the lyrics being intelligent, but more about the feelings that the lyrics and music combined are able to conjure in the listener's mind. Someone who's gone through a similar experience might be more likely to connect with the record - especially as the accompanying album art indicates how each song relates to the time-line of the break-up, which encourages a pretty intimate engagement with real life events.
I've never been a New York coke baron, but my favourite album is Cuban Linx. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
