It probably comes as no surprise that I’m familiar with this Keiji Haino release, and as I relisten to bits of it I find myself liking it less and less. I remembered enjoying this release on my previous listens so I don’t know if it is my current mood or just a changing taste here as I’ve gotten into other experimental forms of what a friend of mine calls “free noise” (thus making a referential joke about free improvisation and noise in general). I like some of the ideas here, but that’s about it— it feels flat and almost uninspired to me. Shame.
I should've guessed you would be familiar with this one. I quite enjoy it though I'm wondering why I chose that as the Haino release to throw your way. Not gonna give this to you as part of the game, but if you've heard it at all in general I'd be very curious to know what you think of

It's my favorite Keiji release and the only one I'd consider charting outside of maybe some of his work with Fushitsusha
I think I've actually heard some of Matryoshka before, though I've never sat down and listened to an album. Really peaceful, neoclassical influenced ambient pop with some glitchy undertones, with flourishes characterized by the good side of melodrama. Nothing earth-shattering but a pleasant listen nonetheless 😄
(oh btw Rocky I'm really glad you dug the John Abercrombie record so much ^_^)
mmk Gowi at the risk of making this thread seem like us juggling recs back and forth, catch
This is what I put on before I go to sleep, apparently.
A droning attack on the senses, it almost feels sort of tribal in the plodding of the dissonant soundscapes here but I feel engaged all the way through this forty-minute expression of noise. A lot of the changes later on were pretty stellar and I couldn’t help but drop what I was doing a few times and just listen. Not many releases like this surprise me to the point where I go “hey, I need to focus” – makes me certainly curious to dig further along the discography for this group. Really great stuff here.
largely cohesive collection of pleasant pop tunes that feel earnestly cutesy in the best way without becoming overwhelmingly saccharine. Power-pop inflections, some absolutely deadly hooks, and really just a hell of a lot of what I apparently look for in an indie pop album 😄
It started as if I was in a niche 1980s police procedural and evolved into one of the most engrossing listens anybody has ever given me. Really cool synths and textures going on and I felt so energized listening to the thing. I really really like this. There’s just something so phenomenal about this and I don’t know what it is and considering while yes I’m not that experienced in the “bleeps and bloops” this has hit me on first listen to be a release that will stick with me. If this is what acid house is I need all of the genre on my computer right now. These ten tracks are simply not enough.

Really glad you dug it much ^_^ I already gave you some recs kinda in that vein in the one thread, but it might also be worth giving this a listen
Really cool spacey psych rock album with a focus on building up off of layers of hypnosis. As experimental is it tends to feel, it does seem to build off of some kind of vague formula of this kind of layering, which is usually to its benefit and always at least interesting. Pink Floyd c. Ummagumma comes to mind, as well as Hawkind to a lesser extent, both comparisons that I make in the most positive sense. Fun yet thoughtful little bit of astral projection in the form of music right here. I dig it.
wow this is really something. dunno why I haven't looked into her stuff aside from the obvious (and also the childe harold 7 inch which is really good). but this is something else. I feel like there's a mixture of live playing and sequenced material, but it's hard to tell because there's a sort of sluggishness that's introduced by some of the envelopes on the synths? Like this feels like modern classical (And then jazz at the end?) and even at the time, a lot of the musical information even down to weird timbre things could've probably mostly been reproduced acoustically at time time with a little trickery. But there's something here, but there's a really great awkwardness undercutting the mechanical precision that I'm really digging. I dunno, there's a lot of interesting stuff goin on here, thanks for the heads up on this one.
Probably the perfect album to end my session of electronic indulgence. Very calm and ambient in its textures and a lot of the sort of glitch-esque sounds help it to keep my attention rather than making me drift off. Though I do think I don’t quite like any song on this album quite as much as I like “Has Been Trying Not to Wonder”; though I still quite enjoy this a lot and I think it’ll be making the group of albums I heard tonight that enter my electronic music chart. Great stuff.
