You really think that "we were dead" was trying to replicate "Good News"? Now I don't like We Were Dead as much as the next guy, but it sounds nothing lie their previous album. "Good New" still retained that rough-around-the-edges quality that was present in their earlier work, especially in tracks like Dancehall where they gave no fucks. "We Were Dead" sounds like an attempt to sound more polished, and more dance friendly in tracks like Dashboard, which they carried on in their new release. But I certainly don't think they were trying to replicate "Good News": an album that really doesn't sound like anything else they've done, due to it's mish mash style.
There's nothing I've been massively disappointed by, but I certainly expected to enjoy releases from Courtney Barnett, Nicolas Jaar, Dawn Richard, Sleater-Kinney, Screaming Females, Steve Earle, and Red Pill (among others) more than I do. Even though they're old favourites, I wasn't expecting great things from the likes of Ghostface or Belle & Seb, so I can't really call them disappointments. There are some albums I've seen hyped around here for which I had pretty high hopes that weren't met, but I can't really say I'm overly disappointed by artists I was previously unfamiliar with. On the whole, this has been a year of very pleasant surprises and albums actually living up to my expectations (or surpassing them). 2015 has been great. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

i mostly see "we were dead" as following the template set in "good news". sure, they altered their sound a little, and marr had some input, but i don't see those two albums too dissimilar, and i definitely think they're quite alike when compared to "moon & antarctica".

That's a botched quote, but it gets the gist. I'm in the same boat. While I didn't think it was bad by any means, I just don't love it 😕 Nor do I think it'll even be in my top 100 by the end of the year. Same with the new Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Both were just incredibly average for me.
I'm also going to add Metz II and the new Nosaj Thing to my biggest disappointments of the year. Both literally sounded like leftover material from their previous efforts. _________________ Doubles & Conch
