The point is to recommend an album they haven't heard, not for the sake of being "weird"
You of all people should see the purpose in this
I think you misunderstood, of course it isn't for the sake of being weird. Its just a lot of people on this forum have heard a lot of music (obviously) so to ensure that you recommend an album that they havent heard, you recommend something thats more out of the way. Which again, isn't bad.

For me it's not so much finding stuff that I know they haven't heard as trying to tailor my rec to a specific user's taste, or if I don't know them that well, trying to gauge that taste. (Haha still trying to figure you out).
And man if you've got cool weird stuff buried in your itunes you wanna share then go for it. I'm all about weird underheard gems and whatnot ๐

This is probably the better way to do it yeah. My top 3 bands would be Pink Floyd, The Antlers, and Muse. Don't know that helps much. I usually try to find a balance. Like maybe you've heard The Animal Years, but haven't heard the wonderful Beast In Its Tracks, or you've heard a Mysterious Production of Eggs, but not Armchair Apocrypha (the reasoning behind my recommendations)

This actually was really, really great, even better than DJ Shadow IMO. Every track just had so many amazing grooves, and the sample choices seemed much more lyrical and conceptual than DJ Shadow's. Thank you so much for the rec, Bro. ๐

Good thing I had a backup for my backup :). I'm glad you liked it as much as I do. I don't have any more time this afternoon but maybe tonight or tomorrow I'll be able to listen to your recommendation. I've really been wanting to get into more jazz so I look forward to this.
