i know im going to regret this but how on earth is timber country

Bro country..... is a general term for styles of country music taking influence from 21st-century hip hop, rock, pop and electronic music.

Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about

Avril Lavigne by Avril Lavigne lately.

This was Kiki's favorite Avril album, and that used to really confuse me. Like most everyone else, I assumed this was one of her weaker albums, but upon listening to it again this week, everything clicks for me.

Avril wrote most of this material at the same time as the material for Goodbye Lullaby (AKA: The best album of the decade so far), and it similarly feels a lot like a loose breakup album. But what makes this album special is that, while the previous release was very rockist-friendly as a Max Martin Blood on the Tracks, this completely throws away any pretense of taste. By flaunting her new marriage to the Nickelback guy and happily shouting about Hello Kitty and other teenage things, she's just doing the things that girls love to do and not giving a fuck about being cool. As she says on the first song "Rock and Roll", "I don't care if I'm a misfit; I far prefer it to the hipster bullshit".

But even more, she still has a chance to show deep maturity on this release, even deeper than she's ever gone before in her music. Not only does she namedrop Radiohead on the song after "hipster bullshit" (The Bends has always been one of her favorite albums), but after the first four happy summer tracks, she goes into a pair of ballads that really show that she's not all silliness and pep like she's made out to be. The second one, "Give You What You Like", is especially astonishing, especially given that the single was released right before she announced her painful diagnosis of Lyme Disease. But then she goes back to the fun songs like the crazy "Bad Girl" with Marilyn Manson and "Hello Kitty", once again playing like a normal woman should.

While I still think it has its flaws, in a way this is the ultimate poptimist album. From post-grunge to brostep, Avril celebrates all the geeky things she's enjoyed in life, and there's something so progressive about that even as she's causing controversy over appropriation. The huge backlash we all gave her over this album shows how far we are from achieving our progressive goals, yet I can imagine that, like any of his puzzles he posted here, Kiki understood this better than the rest of us. He always seemed immune to the concept of "cool", so I can definitely see how the rebellion here really connected to him.

Looking forward to it as well ๐Ÿ˜„

I'm really liking the album art too, but I just don't understand why they decided to do that with their name ๐Ÿ˜• Their previous band logo was fantastic.

i like the bottom two-thirds of the album art. that line along the back of the neck is really off-putting to me. the type treatment is a little weird, but i'm not opposed. i'm curious what's inside though.

Kid Cudi released a track from his upcoming album. I'm surprised at how it sounds, very indie rock sounding. I think his new album has a lot of potential.
