The soundtrack to my escape. I don't know where this is, but it's somewhere else and I like to go. But it doesn't match the crickets outside... maybe I'll close the window.
Because sometimes you just need to hear The Wall done bluegrass, for Chrissakes. _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold

Venetian Snares, Thank You for Your Consideration (2015). First Venetian Snares record I listen to. Sounds good so far, if only very dated (think Aphex ca. 96 or something).
Edit: wow, this guy's middle name isn't subtlety.

Poppy, almost twee, vibraphone-powered chamber music. Fits in perfectly with the rest of the Erased Tapes (the label on which this has been released) roster. Plenty beautiful, but a tad bland. Would like to have heard a bit more experimentation with time signatures, or something more jarring in terms of chord progression. This just plays it a little safe. That isn't to say that this is a bad record by any means, and I would like to restate that it is often really beautiful, but it feels all too predictable. Sounds like it's for people who name Amelie as their favourite film (not that there's anything wrong with that, but it just isn't me). Recommended to those who like World's End Girlfriend. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
Abstract, instrumental hip-hop sound collage, built from samples of rare breaks and old Blaxploitation films. Think of a more out-there Knxwledge, or a more chilled out Lil Ugly Mane, and you might be getting close. Extremely sketchy, to the point where it feels like it's stumbling around searching for a sense of direction. It's pleasant enough, and some of the moments are lovely, but fucking around with some old soul songs and bathing it all in tape hiss results in a pretty lacklustre and rudderless project. The press release claims that this album "creates a whole new story", but this entire endeavour works much better in theory than in practice. To be honest, I'm halfway through and I can't see myself making it through to the end. Crate digging for crate digging's sake is just kinda boring. _________________ 2021 in full effect. EDIT: Well, so far this is... competent. Which is about the biggest compliment I can pay it. Still, it's considerably exceeding my expectations. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
