Very jazzy trip hop which Ninja Tune described as invoking "the haunting classicism of Claude Debussy and Erik Satie, intermingled with the quiet folklore of Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, tipped with the jazz stylings of Miles Davis and Billie Holiday"
Less weird than other CocoRosie released, they've been the definition of a love em or hate em band for a long time. I still love em _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Donatto Dozzy - The Loud Silence
Byron Westbrook - Precipice (unfamiliar with this guy's work but I've been hearing a lot of good things about this)
and there's some Giovanni di Domenico/Jim O'Rourke thing but it's vinyl only, limited to 300 copies and from Italy I think so that's gonna be expensive and I'll probably miss out on that.
And AMBIENT FANS TAKE NOTE! This one's really good. When I finished it the first time I took a minute and then just started it back over, been a little bit since I've done that. I conservatively put it somewhere on my chart because I don't know if it's exactly groundbreaking or anything, the timbres do have a somewhat distinct feel to them and there's maybe more of an electroacoustic vibe to some of the elements but it is mostly just overwhelming with the "infinite sustain" gorgeousness. Except for one of the tracks that gets sorta on a Bee Mask vibe, but the short break is cool. It's getting cold outside and there's going to be some moments when you'll want a sound blanket, I recommend this one.
This one's a bit of a wildcard - I guess it would probably be filed somewhere near the more gothic end of the post-punk spectrum (darkwave?), but I see it more as an off-kilter take on dreampop, only covered in cobwebs and cheap, frosty synths. Everything is half-hidden, creepingly slow, subtly warped, all of which serves to convey a real sense of isolation, a feeling of being lost in the dark, dubby, almost underwater textures that the record is draped in. Guitars occasionally jangle in the background, whilst at other times they weave spiderwebs - there's a definite pop nous here, but you may have to get some dirt under your fingernails in order to find it. I can definitely see you enjoying the four records mentioned above, but this is one I'm far less sure about. I've been going back to it a lot lately, though, so you should definitely check it out. Quite enchanting stuff.
Hope that helps.
Top class as always, that DฤM-FunK one in particular has been on my radar with awhile but haven't had a chance to hear it till now. 2015 chart updates coming soon. _________________
The excerpts from this that I've heard have been fantastic. Really looking forward to hearing the whole thing.
Some other recent releases that I'm pretty excited about:
Blue Daisy - Darker Than Blue
Floating Points - Elaenia
G Herbo (aka Lil Herb) - Ballin Like I'm Kobe
Laurel Halo - In Situ
milo - so the flies don't come
St. Germain - St. Germain
Steve Hauschildt - Where All Is Fled
Interested in hearing the new records from Autre Ne Veut and Darkstar, too, even if I was underwhelmed by their respective last albums. Lots of interesting new releases floating around. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
MSMSMSM had me worried that all the new material on this would be mediocre, but even through shitty transcode, the tracks with vox are nice enough. still, nothing new is as good as "Hard" or "Bipp," and this really doesn't flow as an album at all.

I wubbed "MSMSMSMSM", and I think the whole album succeeds really well.

Agreed. MSMSMSMSM is a great track. Every track on it is fantastic. The last track (I forget what it's exactly called right now) was the most down-to-Earth and heartfelt song that we've ever heard Sophie make. I was blown away when I heard it.
Everything flowed really well into the next track as well. Sorry you feel that way Satie. _________________ Doubles & Conch
So Matmos have their washing machine album coming out at the end of this month, but they also just came out with this app for a site specific art installation thingy, but you can get the app and just play all 8 tracks wherever you're at.
