In the last 24 hours:

via Gumtree:

Strawberry Switchblade by Strawberry Switchblade

via someone who sent me this as he couldn't get hold of Jim O'Rourke's Eureka which I ordered over a month ago:

Pastel Blues by Nina Simone

Music on Vinyl repress admittedly, but it sounds incredible. One of the best 2010s 180grm 'audiophile' (hate that term) vinyl reissues I've heard.

and via some Texans:

Colour Trip by Ringo Deathstarr

On putrid blue translucent vinyl. Yuck. Beggars can't be choosers.

Oh it's not that bad - just despise coloured vinyl in general. It was a better option than the cola cube coloured version.

Speaking of which... And this is to LittleM in the main... Colour Trip is still available here despite greedy sods on Discogs flogging it for nearly double. Fill yrr boots.

Not a coloured vinyl fan myself. It always sounds shit to me. Every time I get one I always wish I'd just got the cd instead. I can't think of one I have that sounds any good. Not that I have many. 7"s on white are possibly ok from memory.

Does the hatred stem from the fact that its gimmicky and crass commercialism, or do you think the quality of sound is different?

I have a couple colored vinyls in my collection and they sound great.

Neither, although now you come to mention it I do think that to have a 'limited, 180 gram, remastered from the original tapes (try a CD!), for 'audiophiles' only' coloured press in addition to the standard just encourages people to buy records as collector's pieces rather than for the love of the music, hence why you get some Discogs sellers instantly push up the price of coloured vinyl for no reason other than to make a fast buck. Then again, if some people are mug enough to spend money on that sort of thing then more fool them.

For me however it's more to do with trying to judge what sort of condition the record's in. Not much of an issue for new vinyl, but as someone who buys 75% used records my heart sinks whenever I see a record I really want that you can only get on coloured wax. Sometimes you strike lucky - as I did the other day when I found a copy of Nigger Kojak and Liza's Showcase on red vinyl which was immaculate when I put it on the deck in the shop I found it. But unlike black wax where you can see the imperfections relatively easily you just can't on the coloured stuff, hence why I tend to avoid it.
