Anyways, here's my top-10 metal albums for the year, if anyone is interested:
Emotionally raw, powerful (no pun intended) power metal. Lyrically it deals with the lead-singer's brother's battle and eventual death from cancer. Really emotionally moving stuff.
Excellently produced black metal with some of the most soulfully-played guitar I've ever heard in the genre. Far more than just blasting drums and walls of guitars.
Post-black-metal, a great blend of black metal with post-rock elements. The beauty of orchestra mixed with the harshness of black metal. Constantly changing, sonically soaring music.
Slow and plodding doom, an album that feels like it's just on the edge of breaking into insanity, and once it breaks loose, it kicks you right in the ass.
Very reminiscent of Entombed. Well paced with mind-blowing technical proficiency, sounds like a classic-era death metal album. It's not reinventing the wheel, it's just a really good wheel.
If you could build a power metal album, it'd be this. Big, bombastic, singable choruses, fast guitars, face-melting solos, it's what Kamelot has been doing exceptionally well for quite some time.
Thick, heavy, lumbering guitars in what amounts to one of my favorite doom metal albums of the year. Like the sound of an iron giant slowly approaching from the distance.
Black metal with a groove. Heavy Middle-Eastern influences (cause they're from Israel), Arabic scales all over the place, vocals that are double, sometimes triple, tracked that amount to a colossal sound.
Old-school black metal. If you're into Gorgoroth or Emperor with a dash of Pelican, this is your bag. Expertly composed, equal parts beautiful and haunting. _________________ Progressive Rock

i certainly don't know what the bolded part means in context, but it seems to me that when i tried to be an earnest contributor to the site and just avoid opinions i disagreed with while expressing my own, i was brushed off as reactionary and not credible. i'd rather directly antagonize people than bother trying to share my taste with people who will assume i'm lying or putting on an act in any circumstance. i always get reactions, and it's a lot more fun than typing out lengthy reflections on what i was listening to just to get some snarky response from everyone. if contributors here don't like antagonism from people like me and Poe, maybe they should analyze their own track records in handling users like us and try to actually trace action-reaction sequences instead of raising a collective gasp when we get sick of this treatment.
Cuba, I get that you're excited about all the SAT words you're learning, but they have to be used in appropriate contexts to make sense or come off as witty.

Well for whatever it's worth, I would much much rather hear your actual opinions on things, because being antagonistic serves nothing but yourself. This is a community, and a good one most of the time (at least I like to think so), and part of having a good community is having varying opinions, including ones that aren't necessarily popular. I think I speak for just about everyone when I say that the musical knowledge that you posses added with your ability to write is an extremely valuable part of this community, and if you dropped the whole antagonistic, sardonic thing and were just honest and earnest, I think it would benefit everyone a lot.
And look, maybe some of this, or most of it, was on the community here, it was on us, for doubting that you were being genuine, and if that's the case, then that's our fault and we were wrong. Maybe this is something that everyone here needs to do. You drop the antagonistic thing, and the community at large is more respectful of unpopular opinions (in general, not just yours). Poe devolved into a "my music is great your music sucks you people are unintelligent morons", and perhaps it's because he was sick of the treatment, like you say. But instead of being honest and airing grievances in a mature way, it degenerated into cynical anger that did nothing but cause tension and fights in the forums.
