I'm exceedingly excited for the new The Range album, Potential. The lead single, Florida, is pretty sick if you're into Hinton's output. _________________ Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
3. Baaba Maal The Traveller - if you like world music, you are surely familiar with the guy, Senegal's biggest musical treasure. His new album is really great, and seems to be a lot more varied than 2009's Television. Lots of genres combined here, from traditional African folk, desert blues, to more "western influences", also electronic. Winston Marshall of Mumford & Sons took a significant part on this record.
Here's the latest article about Baaba from The Quietus http://thequietus.com/articles/19559-baaba-maal-interview
Was very disappointed by this one. Missing You is where Baaba's at.
It's all a matter of personal preference, so I can't quite explain. I found The Next Day cold in relation to the very personal, tragic content of Blackstar. I also find the playing to be more interesting, manic. I do like The Next Day, but not nearly as much as Blackstar.
Agreed! Blackstar is really poignant for what it is, a swan song. But I did love the album before his death because of it's experimental, jazzy art rock. The Next Day, however good it is, is still to me just a good rock album. Blackstar felt pretty groundbreaking in my opinion, and I consider the title track and Lazarus as musical masterpieces.
It really does depend on personal tastes in the end.
So, rumor has it Rihanna's ANTI drops this week, and the new single, "Work" is streaming on TIDAL (lol), even for non-members. "Bitch Better Have My Money" is confirmed for this album, right? 'Cause that sounds a lot more "Anti-" than "Work" does. Gonna give it another try when I'm out of class today, but it sounds like sort of a decent R&B groove, nothing too interesting, and certainly not the lead single from something on the level of aggression of "BBHMM." My hype is waning a bit because of that, but maybe it'll work better in the context of the album. Guess I don't have much longer to find out. Anyone else excited for Rihanna's newest or have thoughts on the new single?
ANTI is now officially out, You can download it free over at Tidal. Its alright so far, I'm only four songs in so I can't really say. I did skip ahead briefly to check out the Tame Impala cover, and its pretty disappointing that she didn't rework anything. She honestly might as well have just thrown in the actual Tame Impala song.
In addition, Tidal is using the launch to get everyone's email addresses. If Tidal's biggest problem was name recognition this is certainly a huge boost for them. They might actually have a shot now. _________________ Overall - The 2010's - 2020
