Thought it was extremely boring.

Thought so at first too. Took a few listens and it clicked a bit. Still far from his best but I think there's a bit more to it than meets the eye at first

I love the random vocal spurts throughout some songs. It made the album feel so ghostlike, I loved it. Plus just the overall texture of the album was very soothing to me.

Because I've been on holiday, I've missed pretty much the last two weeks of leaks and new releases. Anything I need to check out? Long lists of albums are welcome, brief descriptions of those albums are even more welcome. Thanks in advance BEA.

Here's what I've found to be notable during the past two weeks

Ears by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith

On this album, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith enriches out her electronic sound with some woodwinds, and finds a sort of hybrid approach in between the percussion driven songs and drifting ambient sides of her last album. Really steps things up for her, excellent night time listening. https://kaitlynaureliasmith.bandcamp.com/album/ears

No Mercy Bad Poet by Gobby

Gobby came to my attention thru the UNO NYC label around the same time Arca did, but where Arca feels very much like the sound of now, Gobby has always seemed a little out of step of that. I think both do great work, but Gobby gets at some weirder stuff. This album seems like a stab at accessibility tho, with lots of processed vocals all over the place. I wouldn't say it's his best work, or even that I really like all of it, but it's pretty weird so I think it's worth hearing. https://gobbygobby.bandcamp.com/album/no-mercy-bad-poet

Sleep Cycle by Deakin

Deakin from Animal Collective finally delivered his kickstarter album, and it's good! Manages to evoke the band's middle period without feeling derivative, with connective-tissue interlude happenings between songs and structures that are open to doing a little wandering. https://deakinjams.bandcamp.com/releases

And then there's that Tim Hecker album that came out, if you hadn't heard the leak, it is worth checking out for sure.

There was also a Keith Fullerton Whitman thing released thru Cafe Oto but I dunno if that's really of interest to folks (I love it tho).

I think you might dig all of these.

Anna Meredith - Varmints [Classical composer goes electro art pop]
Autolux - Pussy's Dead [Modern Moonshake/Enon style experimental dream pop]
Moken - Chapters of My Life [Cameroonian folk rock]
Lakou Mizik - Wa Di Yo [Haitian "world music"]
Bombino - Azel [Malian rock]
Fumaca Preta - Impuros Fanaticos [Psychedelic Tropicalia]
Walker Family Singers - Panola County Spirit [Pure gospel]

I don't think anyone mentioned this

Gore by Deftones
Another great entry into their discography. I'd say it's probably their weakest since the self-titled or maybe on par with SNW but it's still a very enjoyable release, they continue the shoegaze dream pop stuff from Koi No Yokan but with slightly less satisfying results. Still, check this out for a very good rock record.

new DJ Kridlokk album (under the alias Khid) is pretty cool. Less Memphis style beats this time around and more grime influenced stuff, and the guy still sounds dope even if you don't speak a word of Finnish (which of course I don't)

Listened to the new Trondheim Jazz Orchestra / Kim Myhr / Jenny Hval a couple of times before work today, and it's predictably excellent.

Just added to the database, it's truly sensational.
