New dinosaur jr got announced, and while I've really enjoyed J's solo stuff I'm actually pretty interested to hear what they have in store

Still not sure about the new James Blake album, other than it being too long.

Enjoying this though:

Oh No by Jessy Lanza

Hoping to give that a listen soon.

New Jenny Hval was announced ๐Ÿ˜„ She's been on a run for the past 5 years, so I'm looking forward to it. She still has my #3 of the current year.

Red Rocks 7/8/78 by Grateful Dead

I know this isn't reeeeeaaalllyyyy a 2016 album, but there's a new live Grateful Dead album out and it's absolutely fantastic, a total party of an album, some of the best jams they've done. The beginning of the second disc of Estimated Prophet into The Other One is absolutely amazing, and it ends with them doing Werewolves of London which is great.

So yea, if you're into live Dead music, don't miss this.

Press release wrote:
Blood Bitch is an investigation of blood. Blood that is shed naturally. The purest and most powerful, yet most trivial, and most terrifying blood: Menstruation. The white and red toilet roll chain which ties together the virgins, the whores, the mothers, the witches, the dreamers, and the lovers. Blood Bitch is also a fictitious story, fed by characters and images from horror and exploitation films of the โ€™70s. With that language, rather than smart, modern social commentary, I found I could tell a different story about myself and my own time: a poetic diary of modern transience and transcendence. There is a character in this story that is a vampire Orlando, traveling through time and space. But there is also a story here of a 35-year old artist stuck in a touring loop, and wearing a black wig. She is always up at night, jet lagged, playing late night shows โ€” and by day she is quietly resting over an Arp Odyssey synthesizer while a black van drives her around Europe and America. So this is my most fictional and most personal album. Itโ€™s also the first album where Iโ€™ve started reconnecting with the goth and metal scene I started out playing in many years ago, by remembering the drony qualities of Norwegian Black Metal. Itโ€™s an album of vampires, lunar cycles, sticky choruses, and the smell of warm leaves and winter.

So down for this.

I've fallen way behind on my 2016 listening over the past few weeks, especially after devoting a load of time to reviewing local releases for the Santa Fe Reporter's Music Issue, and then a bunch of time out of town with the in-laws. And with tomorrow comes a bunch more to bury myself under.

Here's what I have on my radar [bolded albums are ones I'm particularly interested in]

50 Foot Wave: Bath White [HHBTM]
Beth Orton: Kidsticks [Anti-]

Big Thief: Masterpiece [Saddle Creek]
Daniel Romano: Mosey [New West]
Flume: Skin [Mom+Pop]
Holy Fuck: Congrats [Innovative Leisure]
The Hotelier: Goodness [Tiny Engines]
Kristin Kontrol: X-Communicate [Sub Pop]
Mark Kozelek: Mark Kozelek Sings Favorites [Caldo Verde]
Megafauna: Welcome Home
Muscle and Marrow: Love [Flenser]
Olga Bell: Tempo [One Little Indian]
PUP: The Dream Is Over [Sideonedummy]
Rhys Chatham: Pythagorean Dream [Zoom]
Sonny & the Sunsets: Moods Baby Moods [Polyvinyl]
Space Dimension Controller: Orange Melamine [Ninja Tune]
Summer Cannibals: Full of It [Kill Rock Stars]
Szun Waves: At Sacred Walls [Buffalo Temple]
