I'm no Chance apologist, but did you even listen to it? All the hooks on that album were super infectious, like from the first listen.
I'm with Hayden here, anyway. The new one is an unfocused mess.
Other than Cocoa Butter Kisses, nothing really sat in my mind as well.
'Juice'? 'NaNa'? 'Favourite Song'? I haven't listened to the album in like 2 years but I can still recall the hooks to all those songs immediately. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Lol, nah man and I gave it my first listen since it came out during the week after Coloring Book came out as an Apple Music exclusive. I might give it another relisten because I'm hooked on Coloring Book and it may do some justice. _________________ ...and for dessert!
I'm not exactly sure why we're judging how good an album is by how catchy the songs are, but Acid Rap is without a doubt 'catchier'... especially the first 4 tracks. _________________ Doubles & Conch
I don't know why it's such a big deal that someone thinks Coloring Book is better, hell I think I like it better. I love the juxtaposition of the ultra-feel good songs and the bangers, and when they intersect on a song like "No Problem"....oh boy...

It's not a big deal at all. It's just that criticising Acid Rap for not being catchy enough is absurd. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Except no one's criticizing anything, all Anti said was that he liked Coloring Book, and that he couldn't remember much of Acid Rap. You're the one making out to be some sort of critique.

It was literally a critique ("I didn't find anything too catchy for me to enjoy"). But whatever, you've been sniping at my posts a bit recently, clearly you're in your feelings about something. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Finally having a chance to relisten to this. I knew it was good the first time around, but this is just incredible. Definitely album of the year material. Possibly the best thing Deerhoof has ever done. Working with Marcus Balter is a perfect fit. The arrangements are really inventive. Highest of recommendations, especially for Squish, Skinny, Divides, Norman. But really, if you like Deerhoof, I can't imagine you not liking this. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Yeah, catchiness isn't solely the reason Acid Rap didn't stick with me well, lol, nor is catchiness something I particularly look for in an album. (Is Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid catchy and it's on my overall? Lol.) I thought Coloring Book had a lot of catchy songs and Acid Rap not as much, so it was more of a difference that I wanted to note. I should've elaborated, but I was typing on a phone while I was eating lunch in between class and research so I cut it short. Sorry for the delayed response. Now that research is over, here are some more notes I want to mention.
The overall vibe from Chance 3 felt more heavenly than Acid Rap which felt certainly more grounded. By heavenly, I am not referring to the gospel songs, but how the project feels as a whole, especially due to the choir. Chance made hella use out of the Chicago Children's Choir in Coloring Book, which sounded stellar imo. Lyrically, Coloring Book covered more topics that I enjoyed listening and reading into than Acid Rap. In Acid Rap, I loved reading into Paranoia, Cocoa Butter Kisses, Acid Rain, and Everything's Good. But for Coloring Book, I loved almost everything most especially Mixtape, Summer Friends, Angels, and All Night. Lastly, Coloring Book is perfectly titled because it's so damn colorful, lol. I love that. It's feels so blissful and Acid Rap, well, not as much.
Idk what else to say really. Sorry? I think Coloring Book is better. I was never against Chance when he exploded, but I never thought Acid Rap was all that great. I gave it some good listens when it came out and another one recently (and probably one more either tonight, tomorrow, or Friday). _________________ ...and for dessert!
