For sure. The boy just fucked around and dropped the best hip-hop album of the year so far. Thirteen tracks, that's what I'm talking about; I've wanted something focused from Kodak. This dude comes from that Boosie School of Helium-Voiced Conflicted Street Preachers, and that's obviously a brilliant thing (good look on getting two legends for very solid features that make complete sense, as well). His storytelling is clear and powerful, even if his weathered voice can sometimes slur in a way that suggests apathy, or at least numbness, and his lines are filled with heavy implications - his music has real pathos. That said, he's still capable of sounding triumphant as fuck when he wants to, and his celebration tracks are infectious. He just has that intangible ability to make a listener relate to him, and in a hip-hop landscape that's increasingly crowded it's a very special talent to have. Lots of melancholy, rainy-day, minor key piano chords here, but with enough variation and colour to stop the tape from getting too bogged down in one particular vibe (I particularly love the occasional nods to that bluesy Southern rap tradition), and the whole thing feels like a sonic 'rags-to-riches' microcosm, with things starting off bleak and getting brighter by the time the tape is through (the lean runtime also means that the tape flies by, with no room for any filler or unnecessary repetition). I've only listened to this twice through, and it's already clear that this is gonna end up super fucking high on my 2016 chart. With YG dropping on Friday (my most anticipated album of the year, bar none), this is gonna be a fantastic week for hip-hop. I can't recommend this highly enough.

absolutely, it's wonderful to see his hype climb and climb, it's one of my favorite parts about living in florida right now, orlando/miami/ft lauderdale keep on giving him this leverage and it's wonderful to see a whole state's hip-hop community come and surround one artist with success

i've loved everything that he has put out and this is no different, can't wait to see what he does next

It's weird, I haven't been keeping up with new music just about at all, but since that March concert, I've been checking at least once a week to see if DOOMSTARKS came out yet, even though I know this site would be up in arms if it did. For as exciting as the prospect of new Avalanches is, new Gorillaz, Strokes, all of these bands I really like a lot and it's been years on, I'm not following any of those actually confirmed projects as closely as one that may well never come to fruition.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, what happened to Lupe? He had 3 final albums coming out this year supposedly, DROGAS, DROGAS light*, and SKULLS, but it's halfway through the year and none are out. Anyone heard anything there?
