Just at a glance, I've only listened to one album in your top ten, probably pretty easy to guess which one. Your 10-20, on the other hand, I've listened to all but two, and absolutely loved them all. Guess I've got some catching up to do. Gonna look at the rest now.

Edit: Yeah, I've listened to maybe a little more than half of these. It's very international, which I dig.

And I havenโ€™t really dug around in the Japanese albums Iโ€™ve missed out on yet! Imagine how much more international it will be if I love those records! It is cool that you've heard a good deal of it. I've been picking at it since the two days ago and it's grown a decent amount. This is turning out to be a great year.

I now have a 2016 Honorable Mentions chart with a decent handful of albums, for those interested.

Anyway... so I've been doing this project where I re-analyze/re-assess and attempt to get rid of any bias. I've listened to Madonna, Def Leopard, Lynnerd Skynard and all the things I thought I would detest, just to make sure that yes, I do like that or no I don't.

So I'm kind of coming to a close to my project... 6 months into it. 1330 albums listened to between 1950 and 2009. I'm not even close with 2010s yet (43 albums in and because I'm so unfamiliar with it... at least so I think, that I probably want to do a total of 300 albums).

Anyway... a small reason I'm doing this is to update my overall chart. I was dissatisfied that I kind of just threw it together. It was more or less a gut check and very much so less scientific. I think getting older and the job I'm in... well I'm way more meticulous (kinda) and really care... do I like this album more than that one and why. So I developed this system and tested it out with the 1950s... by the end I was satisfied. I realized the shortcomings of my system and that it totally wasn't any more scientific than any soft science of surveys. If I took the same survey 10 times... I might just answer it differently each time, even if I took it all at once.

So... here's a rough draft of two different versions of what my overall could look like, minus the 2010s of course (which I think there's probably at least 10 albums that would make it).

This one is based on the fact that sometimes I do think an overall chart should have 50 Beatles albums because one part about the respect of musicians/albums that I have is their staying power and often groups like the Beatles have multiple staying power albums. They are icons of our culture for a reason... it's not just because some old fat fart wanted to make money, although that of course always plays a role. So there's a part of me that is happy with having 2198498425 U2 albums on my list... U2 made A LOT of solid albums. So here's that list:

Top 100 Test: Rating Only by sethmadsen

But then there's a part of me that actually agrees that the overall chart should be the best of each artist I find fantastic. Sometimes great albums get a shaft because what... you want to rank all 19357594 Beatles albums? That's kind of not fair. I do sometimes find myself thinking though... huh... so I axed 50 to 80 albums on this list which I rated higher, just so I could have some esoteric one off band who made a great record once to be on my list... like AFI and Sublime. I mean no offence, I like those bands, but they aren't what I'd consider the greatest ever.

Anyway, here's that list: Top 100 Test: 1 per artist by sethmadsen

I'll probably mill over it and of course when I add 2010 data to it, who knows what I'll settle on.

I also did this recently, ordering all the hip-hop/rap that I've listened to during this project, some of it for the first time.

It took me 5 months, but I finally finished the largest overhaul I made to my chart. Got rid of a bunch of albums I never listen to, added a bunch of new favorites, and completely reworked every description. I can't promise you'll find anything new because I'm boring, but I'd appreciate it if you gave it a look:
