Lately I've been ordering Astral Spirits' cassette batches even though I don't own a cassette player because it's cheaper to order a batch and use the enclosed download code than it is to purchase each download separately, and they don't offer batches for digital download. Went in to End of an Ear to trade those cassettes, they wanted two, gave me two dollar store credit for each, fine (I was going in expecting ~$2.50). Perused their stock and literally the only thing I could find was a $4.99 copy of Anthony Davis' Episteme (saw a copy of Sam Rivers' Waves too, which I really enjoy, but haven't been in the mood for Sam lately, so I passed). Asked if they'd be willing to just up the store credit about a dollar so I didn't have to whip out my debit card for the extra dollar on the Davis LP and got a small diatribe about how much they will resell the cassettes for, tax, etc. Handed them the Davis LP, asked for a slip for the $4 credit, and left disenchanted. Didn't say anything but wondered whether they believed losing about a dollar in a deal (that would stay in the store) would be more profitable in the long run than a pleased customer. End of an Ear is my favorite record store in town, because I can usually find something there, but I'm becoming less and less of a fan of their personnel.
Went down the street to Waterloo and picked up original pressings of Mouse on Mars' Instrumentals, Chris Brokaw's Red Cities, Folkways Traditional Songs of Mexico, and Anthony Braxton's Saxophone Improvisations 1979.
Finally got this. First saw it in a poll a few years ago. Then saw it in a chart on here. Listened to it on holiday, in the early hours of the morning, on my mobile.
Got the remastered version with the bonus download songs and the DVD
