Picked up a couple of bargains from Anarchy today...

Another Green World by Brian Eno

1st press Island cover however the record itself is a reissue on Polydor...cover a bit tatty but the record itself looks decent. ยฃ6.50

And...

Otis Blue / Otis Redding Sings Soul by Otis Redding

UK Mono 1st press for ยฃ3.00...I'll have to see how this one cleans up as lots of dust and surface marks but nothing feelable, it will probably suffer from a bit of crackle though. I already have a great condition Stereo version but have always wanted the Mono pressing so fingers crossed on this one.

Good finds both, mate. I picked up a mono Otis Blue from a charity shop in Egham a year or so back. And I saw that Polydor press of AGW in my local record emporium for ยฃ25, so ยฃ6.50 is a bargain (ยฃ60 for 1st Island press on Discogs - madness). Still prefer Music For Airports mind - haven't stopped listening to it since I picked it up on a whim a week or so back...

You know what I've never actually listened to Music for Airports...sounds like I should rectify that sooner rather than later.

FUCK YESSS!!!! Frank Ocean had a Black Friday store where he is selling physical copies on Blonde only until midnight. Snagged Purchased a vinyl and CD copy. Really tempted to blow $80 on the magazine, but I think I'll pass.

Blonde by Frank Ocean

Actually, I shouldn't say snagged because they're 7000ish LP pressings, supposedly. Oh well, not as special as I'd hope, but it's okie.

Off to the Independent Label Market at Spitalfields tomorrow, but in the meantime arriving at the Dreadzone by pigeon post today:

Stars / Time / Bubbles / Love by The Free Design

Totally and utterly beautiful, even if it is a repress. Flippin' love The Free Design, as anyone who's bothered to look at my chart may kinda know already. Already cued up Butterflies Are Free 3 times on the spin.

And a repress of Susumu Yokata's Sakura came today too. Hard to believe I'd not even heard this record a week ago. That's the beauty of Plug for you...

Picked this up yesterday too from the ace Spiral Archive in Northampton - original still in shrink...

So just back from today's Independent Label Market at Spitalfields in London and with arms that feel like lead managed to drag back this little lot...

Some highlights:

- Copy of The Normal's TVOD/Warm Leatherette signed by Mr. Mute Records himself, Daniel Miller
- A Polysom repress of Novos Baianos F.C which I never even knew had come out until I spied it on the Mr. Bongo stall (had given up trying to find a Brazilian original)
- The Terry HQ LP - one of my 2016 highlights
- A fair bit of Brazilian and African stuff
- The Susanne Sundfor LP from last year (cheers to Gowi for the original heads-up) which seems to be sold out everywhere

For any vinyl buyers this market was unquestionably the best 'record fair' I've ever been to. Great vibe, some amazing deals (think apart from the Novos Baianos and Joni Haastrup LPs all the albums I bought were no more than a tenner each) and a load of stalls selling beer in close proximity. Definitely will be going next year, assuming the wife lets me after seeing me cart all the above through the front door.

Nice nice nice ๐Ÿ˜

Wake Up Your Mind is in my listening queue, looking forward to finally getting around to that. Arthur Verocai and Novos Baianos are always cool too, great picks. And Vs. for ยฃ10 would be a steal here. I don't recognize the album with the red cover in the middle though... I thought it was Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons until I looked closer. What is it?

You mean this one?

Os Brazรตes by Os Brazรตes

60s garage rock from Brazil, reissued on Mr. Bongo. In fact I spent more with them than anyone else. Wholeheartedly recommend the Pasteur Lappe compilation to all (already PM'd Norm about it, think Mecca, Gabe and JoD would dig too).

You would have loved it Hayden - stalls galore, from Stones Throw to Bella Union to Drag City to Witchita to Fortuna Pop! to Mute to Rough Trade to Warp to Ninja Tune and another 40 or so more. Plus lots of samples of ale doing the rounds. I could have bought at least another 15 LPs but my arms were getting heavy and I set myself a strict budget which I didn't dare exceed else 'er indoors would get rather vexed with Chrimbo round the corner.

Yeah, that one ๐Ÿ˜„ Might try to find it online somewhere... anything from Brazil in the 60's where the band looks like pirates must be good. I'll also try to find the Pasteur Lappe record (that was a RSD release this year, right?.. I remember seeing that cover a few months back, but I know nothing about the guy).

I don't even think we have record fairs in Canada... not that I'm aware anyway ๐Ÿ˜• I could see one being pretty successful in Toronto.

And booze/impulse shopping might not be the best mixture for my wallet ๐Ÿคฃ There's a place I went in Florence that's a bar downstairs and a record shop upstairs, which I don't think would slide in Canada, but it was pretty cool. People were half drunkenly shopping and dancing and whatnot.

Sure is. I heard it for the first time a couple of months ago and kept meaning to get it but something else always came up instead. Just stuck the record on now (Mr. Bongo pressing from this year) and it sounds particularly well mastered - in fact the soundstage is probably the most vibrant of any Brazilian LP I own apart from my 2nd press of Transa. Mr. Bongo could teach Plain, Runt and 4 Men With Beards a thing or two about reissuing MPB landmarks.
