Oh, nice. Again I apologize for feeling overkill on metal; I've mainly just been watching movies ever since my Spotify and credit card expired simultaneously a little while back, with the occasional album on YouTube. I'll definitely be revisiting this series when I do get back into music.

However with this it's again two albums I know and love. And I honestly don't see much reason one is any greater than the other. Kyuss may have the edge technically but Halford's vocals were brilliant before they became a pop metal band in the 80s (and even then they were still killer). It's just a personal thing for me. I didn't go to college or live in San Francisco or use the internet or do whatever it is people do to learn about Kyuss until fairly recently. But I've known Judas Priest for a long time, and of course it was those 80s albums with the hits that I bought first but it didn't take me long to realize their 70s output was the shit (for the record I'd put a handful of Kyuss albums over anything Priest besides this and Stained Class). They just kinda picked up where Sabbath left off after their classic 6 album run came to an end. I absolutely love this album. "Victim of Changes" is a great jam with Halford in top form. "The Ripper" is a short blast of wickedness. "Tyrant" and "Island of Domination" are also Priest classics that don't get enough praise.

I like Priest, but, I don't know, they don't grab me like Sabbath before them or Maiden after them. Then again, I've only heard this album from them, and Sad Wings of Destiny is a good album.

However, Welcome to Sky Valley is a pretty dope bit of stoned goodness. It's what my gold standard is - along with Dopethrone - for wicked stoner metal. Vote for Kyuss.

After listening to so much extreme metal that Priest album sounds a little tame to me. Even Sabbath is more intense than this album. I can see how it laid ythe blue print for later bands but besides The Ripper it doesn't grab me.

Easy vote for Kyuss's best album.

I was kidding. Kinda. I mean I suppose pop metal is an actual genre that I'm likely unfamiliar with. But the
80s albums were considerably more accessible than the early stuff. More arena rocky, like the Scorpions.

Hazey, definitely check out more Priest. They're practically equals with Maiden. If I was to combine my favorites from both bands onto a list it would be relatively even. I preferred Maiden for the longest time; it was years later when I gave Priest the chance they deserved and at one point for a while they were my favorite band.
