I know the rolling stone list gets a lot of flack, but last time I read the contributors to their top 500 lists, it does have about 200 musicians/music journalists/record company peeps doing the list. To say their opinion isn't at least kind of credible is kind of like saying a journal of medicine is less credible than Wikipedia.
But there is an argument for some form of nepotism going on.
