Don't think twice, It's alright - Dylan
It's too late - Carol King
Go your own way - fleetwood mac (along with most of Rumors)

... those ones are a little spiteful, in regards to the topic. seemingly sung by the person doing the breaking up.

then, on the other side of the coin, this one is a bit more remorseful. seemingly sung by the person getting broken up with.

hate it here - Wilco (along with most of Sky Blue Sky)

so.. which ever case the OP happens to be in currently, something here should work out for you.

Don't Think Twice, It's Alright is so great because while he's mostly at peace withe the break-up it has just a little touch of venom.

The process of break up in some of the best break up songs I know:

Brenda Holloway - When I am gone
- announced break up

Burt Bacharach - Make it easy on yourself
- the generous grown up broken hearted man

Quicksilver Messenger Service - Don't cry my lady love
- the generous tramp who has to leave and tries to comfort the left one

John Hartford - Gentle on my mind
- the generous tramp who maybe doesn't realize

Grateful Dead - Brokedown palace
- about having to go

Nanci Griffith - Cold hearts and closed minds
- a lonely descision

Prefab Sprout - When love breaks down
- the quiet tragedy you can't stop

Associates - It's better this way
- dark hysteria

Roy Harper - Another day
- the last words exchanged

Lovin' Spoonful - Six o'clock
- the drama of the morning after

Jefferson Airplane - Comin' back to me
- an impressionist's dream of loss

Chi Lites - Have you seen her
- a life meaningless, after she went

Joni Mitchell - Hejira
- reflections about being alone again

Dr. Buzzards Original Savannah Band - Cherchez la femme
- maybe the male version of being alone again sans reflection

For me, Breakin' Up by Rilo Kiley is a great break up song. Only it's from the perspective of someone who couldn't wait to get out of a relationship. It's callously upbeat and feelgood, making it all the more fun and cheekily subversive.
