Wow! This list rules. One of the best lists I've ever seen tbh. And perhaps Pitchfork's best. I've always been huge fan of Pitchfork's lists & ratings (just not their reviews) from the beginning, and this may be their best.

Applause

edit: And I LOVE how they choose my two favorite Beatles albums for the top ten! lol. But, seriously the whole thing is awesome and diverse. I LOVE that In A Silent Way is in the top ten. I adore that album. And that Aretha album rules as well. Psyched to check out that Nina Simone album. I've been needing a little kick in the butt to get really into her since I just know I'm going to fall in love. Hard.

I was impressed to see Wild is the Wind so high. One of my absolute favorite records. Been on my overall for years.

Music From Big Pink would like a word. Not talking And probably Jackson C. Frank. And Dexter Gordon. And Tim Buckley.

But, honestly, overall, this is a solid list. Waaaaaay more jazz than I expected. 5 jazz records in the top 20? And two in the top 5. That's something. Considering the amount of Nina albums, I'm shocked one of them isn't Sings The Blues.

#1 is dope of course. Françoise Hardy, Scott Walker, Pharoah Sanders, Patty Waters, Max Roach, Tom Ze, Os Mutantes, Moondog, Gal Costa, The Monks, Terry Riley, Karen Dalton, plenty of Coleman... can't really complain.

Wasn't expecting The White Album to be their fav Beatles... odd. And The Doors is tragically low. Trout Mask Replica was a tad low as well, but it looks like they weren't too big into Zappa at all...

I'd say there are 30-40 albums I haven't heard... looking forward to queueing some up. Overall, digging the list, super solid.

Quote:
1. Pet Sounds
2. The Velvet Underground & Nico
3. The Doors
4. Highway 61 Revisited
5. Abbey Road
6. In The Court Of The Crimson King
7. Trout Mask Replica

8. Blonde on Blonde
9. Songs of Leonard Cohen
10. Sgt. Peppers

3/10 isn't bad, right? Laughing

Well Songs of Leonard Cohen was at 11. Very Happy

I'm really surprised Trout Mask Replica wasn't in there. I mean that seems like a no-brainer. And TWO Velvet Underground albums in the top ten. That's fricken' amazing. And any list that has Karen Dalton rules, right?

Really weird that Music from The Big Pink is not there though. Again, that seems like a no-brainer.

And there was no Tim Buckley at all? That seems crazy! Looks like my chart is better after all. lol

Here's the list. Actually much better than I expected. Much more Jazz than I expected and a very worthy #1.
Maybe Pitchfork has been perusing Scaruffi's lists and are learning more about the history of the music they cover?

Naaaaaaaaaaaaah. P4k2cool4dat.

Hadn't thought about Beggar's Banquet... they've definitely always been fond of the Stones.

More than anything I'm looking forward to the 100-200 section. Hoping for some cool choices.

Well predicted. Sgt Pepper is rarely this low on any kind of list! They are maybe not so keen on the summer of love...

Or they're in the process of discovering just how many better albums there are... Thankfully, one of these major music mags came to their senses Smile
