I finally figured out how to do big pics!!!

International Velvet by Catatonia
Really surprised by how much I enjoyed listening to this one today. It's a kind of middle of the road guitar pop album but a lot of the songs demand to be turned up and enjoyed!! They were kind of being silly but they had the tunes to back it up. My favourite on here is Dont Need the Sunshine-it's a lovely folk-pop kind of thing-I could swear it is a 60s classic really. Cerys Matthews voice is unique and probably a reqired taste but I'm totally into it.

This is probably the first big album that you might call post-Britpop as it came out in 98 and so began a different era of UK alternative rock bands.

What a great record !

And if you want some pure noisy shoegaze, try their previous 1992 album Everything's Alright Forever (from which Giant Steps was indeed a giant step. But still it's a damn good lp

Bring it on by Gomez Not working hmmmpf ๐Ÿ™ (sorted now ๐Ÿ˜„ )

I listened to this one earlier today as well. You could probably call it post-britpop as there is a britpop influence in there I think ๐Ÿคก . Much more American and more Psychedelic stuff in there too. Gomez suffered the curse of winning the Mercury music prize-they stopped selling albums after this.

Once again, I was surprised by how much I liked it. I used to own the album but never really liked it. I think I like it more now-it has some nice easy, relaxed vibes. Some nice grooves and catchy choruses. Who had a thread about laidback, funky, poppy music recently? I think Gomez were mentioned. This whole album fits the bill.[/url]

Holy shit!! That sounds great ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks Yann. I'm starting to see why people wax lyrical about this band.
Note to self: always listen to the Boo Radleys through decent headphones as that was cool.

Diamond Hoo Ha by Supergrass

I'm the same as you-just heard the first four. Let me know what you think.

All 6 Supergrass albums are good. They know how to write a song, and they have that lovely 70's feel. Listen to "Run" from Life on Other Planets, especially the second part of the song, the long ending. Pure bliss.
Road to Rouen is atmospheric. Still very good, but lacking focus a bit;
the last album is a return to the style of I should Coco. Not as good, but still very underrated

Good to know! Supergrass are a very reliable band for me-even great at times. Though I dont get so much variety from them. I heard a Gaz McCoombs solo album a while ago. That was pretty cool as well. Sounded a bit like a 70s Glam era Bowie album.

The Menace by Elastica

Don't know it. Just heard its disappointing after the first one. Maybe its waiting to be rediscovered ๐Ÿ˜•

Completely disappointing indeed. Not a single tune on it. No wonder: Damon Albarn was no longer there to help on the songwriting. Like many of us, i love Justine. She was part of the greatness of the first LP. But as for songwriting, it really was her and Damon, the drummer admitted it in an interview. That lovely couple was behind that flawless LP

Wow-I heard that rumour but didn't know there was substance to it. It's a sheame they didn't make more albums together.

Also, probably shouldn't forget about the Wire and Stranglers "tributes" on the debut. I'm in no way against it because they sound great- but you've got to give credit to the guys you are nicking the best riffs from.

Great memories of when this song came out. One of the sweetest pop songs of the 90s. What a unique and beautiful voice. Thankyou Dolores.

I listened to Suede Head Music and Sleeper The It Girl. On both I really enjoyed the awesome guitars, and on both I thought that the songs weren't very good. The tunes are kind of crummy. But I thought both were worth listening to just for the music itself. And it made me want to check out the rest of their stuff.

Yeah. I LOVED this album. Even more than Giant Steps I think, but they're both great.

Yeah! This sounds perfect. ๐Ÿ˜

I've like Gomez, but have never fully immersed myself in any of there albums. thanks!

It does seem like winning the Mercury is a curse, doesn't it? LOL. Had never thought about it before since I'm American, but now that u mention it. Is this sth that's talked about?
