'92:3 The Breeders Still Had IT! (But NOT for much longer)
How have I never heard this version of Do You Love Me Now? before? This is amazing.
I still love Last Splash though. I think you've got a point regarding the shift in production, but the songwriting on Last Splash is so good. I still think it's the best thing they ever did. The new album is really great too. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

I know! That's what makes it's so sad! ๐ข
I just re-listened to Last Splash and you're right - the songwriting is steller. I'm sure if it came out now, I'd love it. I've mellowed with old age! But at the time it came out... ๐งฑ . Especially because a lot my friends (mostly the girls) would play it A LOT. I just loved Pod so much & never could get into this one because the production was soooo obvs AOR Alt Nation friendly.
As u know, I gravitate to things that r a little rough around the edges. lol. So Last Splash was in stark contrast to what I was digging back then.
I know. I love Last Splash and the EP. But then it took them like 10 years or something to make their next album and it was just awful. Not a single good song on it. I had to settle for her new group The Amps. It was the only good material she put out after Last Splash. I don't know why more people don't like it. Im talking about the album Pacer. . Of course it wasn't as good as Last Splash, but at least it had some singable songs on it. I remember at the time it was hyped as one of those Lo-Fi albums. But I could never figure out what they meant by that. To me it just sounded like a kind of stripped-down Breeders..

But low fidelity means it has less fidelity to how the same music would sound being played live in front of you rather than on a recording. And most of those so-called Lo-Fi albums actually sound MORE like music being played live than non- Lo-Fi records. They actually more hi-fi than Hi-Fi records. I think what they meant by Lo-Fi is rough sounding and raw and unsweetened by Recording Technology. But that's hardly the same thing as Lo-Fi.

Right. That's exactly what they mean by it & how it's been used since the early 90s when I was really into Sebadoh, Pavement, & GBV. I agree - this kind of music often - to me - sounds more vital than supposedly hi-fi recordings - more immediate. More real. More visceral.

Just a household message for people looking into 1992.
I was going to listen to
On The Mouth by Superchunk
but then I noticed that this album was actually only released on 10 february 1993.
So people who have this album in their 1992 chart please be reminded to move it to your 1993 chart (is this why this album is not in your 1992 chart Tilly?)
I'm now listening to:
Lunapark by Luna (US)
And this is really a band I like and maybe even more lo-fi (again in the good sense) than the bands already mentioned before.
I was already a fan of Pup Tent but never sought out one of their albums and now I see there's still many to investigate and after hearing this gem which is also their debut album, I'm even more enthusiastic. the songs and the guitars are so easy-flowing that you cannot feel otherwise than be totally in awe.
I've also listened to:
Free-For-All by Michael Penn
His March album is one of my all-time favorite albums and one of the most underrated ones on this site (it's not even in the top 10000) but this album (which is ranked much higher) is of much less quality than March: he's doing so much his best that the songwriting seems a bit forced.
I'm still gonna put it in my top chart of 1992 though because the voice of this guy on itself is sufficient to make me melt.
