I like how someone chose that Tresor album. I used to have some of those Tresor calculations that came out in the early 90s,, and I love those. They had names with like Detroit or Berlin in the title. At the time I never heard anything like it. They were cool.
I know nothing about this - what are Tresor calculations?
This is what I would think of if somebody asked me about "electronic" as a genre. There are plenty of artists that are synthesizer heavy that still make pop or rock songs, and any House or IDM from the 80s or 90s I would keep separate just for the sake of wanting more people to explore the kind of artists that I just listed rather than ones they might already know.

Opening up the conversation into Electroacoustic music (Musique Concrete, Tape Music, Glitch) I think would be more appropriate since we could probably hit some of the other artists that have been talked about on here thus far in the realms of other genres.

This probably goes hand and hand with dividesbyzero's comment on how this thread is too broad. I agree with what you mean though.
I suppose sometimes the issue we have here is we have some users who are LVL100 and some users who are LVL10 musically speaking, right? So part of the reason why I wanted such a broad reaching thread is so that anyone could participate. If I were to start a glitch only thread, LVL 50 and above could probably participate and that's it.
For the competition, I'll allow anything that can have the label of electronic music, so long as you can show from another legit publication it is such.
As we do more of these as sub-genre's we can really dial in stuff like you are suggesting, and I look forward to it. As a matter of fact, if you want to create your own thread for how you want to talk about it, I'd be very intrigued to follow it. I'm a mere LVL25 or something when it comes to electronic music, but I'll participate regardless.
Again the concept for these threads is broad on purpose - it's to get anyone involved in it and to put together a list of recs a the genre level since this site doesn't have filters for genre. The concept basically is: your house just burned to the ground. You have money for 10 [genre] records, which would you buy and why? (Streaming doesn't exist because it's the post-apocalypse... or something).
yep some good stuff there, though like with Terry Riley it's so hard to pick a fav, and I just recently found out he did the soundtrack to this Bruce Conner short film Crossroads, in collaboration with Patrick Gleeson. you can't even find the video on ubuweb anymore and have to seek it in other places, but if you do, about 13 minutes in, some of the best Terry Riley music starts. I guess it got bootlegged on an unofficial cassette release at some point so it could maybe even be considered a real release too.

😁 I noticed after I posted that, that the comp you listed had Music of the Spheres on it. I wish that the pioneering women of electronic music would get more notice as well. I would be down to watch something on Beyer! I really don't know that much about her, but I'm sure it would be an interesting story to tell.

Today I've been playing these, which like mentioned, really are barely electronic, but Trip Hop, Electronica, Dance Punk, and even electronic rock have their roots in electronic music. These are just favorites of mine I could think of while cleaning house, etc. from my unexperienced world.
