I also would like to expand my jazz tastes beyond Miles Davis.
Not to be a shameless self-promoter, but I've got a jazz chart I'll shamelessly self-promote if you wanna take a look _________________ Progressive Rock
I'd mostly just like to listen to more albums rather than just limiting myself to radio. There is just too much great stuff to check out. _________________ Check out some of my other interest on my own review site. Scum N' Villainy
Things I'll never accomplish, but would be amazing if I did:
1) Finish my assessment of music from 500 to 1950. (possibly working backwards?)
2) Start doing year charts in earnest (review each year, starting with 2018, and work backwards).
3) More genre discovery - there's likely music in genre's I already like I need to discover more deeply.
Not too shabby... I'm in the 1750s... (well technically like antiquity to 1600 and then 1750 to 1720 or something)
Also did that Genre thing with stuff most people thought was a joke, but it turned out to be kinda fun way to discover/start digging into parent genres a little more seriously. (Actually I should probably finish that game and then dig into them more seriously/deliberately).
But no, I didn't do years. Didn't even really dig into 2018 at all... so maybe in 2020...??? haha. I'm happy with the progress I've made. Probably too much to bite off all in one year in any seriousness anyway.
So yeah, I'm going to tie my shoes this year. (or not let the noodles fall out of my mouth)
Oh and not so seriously, I'm starting to rate movies on RYM.
I've already started, but I'm going to try to find and promote more (truly) independent music in 2019. I've been listening to most of what gets posted to the 'Music you make' thread here at BEA and also at RYM. (There have been some truly good albums at RYM in the last couple months, the two I've liked the most are Periwinkle Easter by Wolf Circus and Some Purgatory by Mitch Gettman, and thisofcourse. My latest favorite here at BEA has been chreighola's 2016 album, sorry chreigh for being late to the party with that one.) I will occasionally try to hit up bandcamp too, but there's generally too much on there and bandcamp kind of sucks. _________________ Some New Ordeal (Spotify/iTunes/Deezer)
I need to sort my record collection into some sort of working order. And go to more gigs. And make hella playlists for all occasions. And, at some point, fix my year charts. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Oh yeah, and complete my Weird Al-style 'Waterloo Sunset' parody, 'Portaloo Bumsex'. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
These were my resolutions for 2018:
1) finish my project of discovering the full BEA top 2500 only to discover that I like more albums outside of the top 2500 (currently 1047) than albums in the top 2500 (currently 961 although 368 of those were new albums I added throught this forum topic).
2) which means that I will mostly try to listen to the 152 albums (and counting) on my wishlist mainly from recs from other BEA users.
3) and at the same review the scores of my existing favorite albums
4) and keep track of what happens in 2018. While I was not to found of the music evolution in the last 10 years I very much liked 2017 and hope that 2018 will carry on in the same form
5) try to invest a bit of energy in classical music (mainly extend my knowledge of Beethoven from his 9th to his other works) and contemporary jazz which is currently also finding a new breath (ao Kamasi Washington and many new Belgian artists)
6) to start something on Belgian music (really something special worth promoting) but maybe I should keep that for 2019.
And the results:
1) I'm nearly there but still have 5 years and about 200 albums to cover
2) my wishlist now contains 606 albums (in principle outside the BEA top 2500) still to listen to
3) reviewing the scores of my favorite albums which means consolidating what I already know is something I need to do urgently because I've listened to far too much new music or old music I didn't know yet in 2018. I'll sometimes try to do that by covering one favorite artist/band with additional comments and including looking in missing albums of those artists I haven't listened to yet.
4) see previous point: I've discovered a lot of new music in 2018 (see my entry in the sticky 2018 thread) and look forward to do so in 2019 as well but maybe not so intense
5) nearly nothing done on this so is still a project
6) and this certainly I'm still planning to do in the hope it might be interesting. I'll already try to get you interested in TC Matic when my Get To Know A Top 10 comes up.
So no need for something new: this will keep me going for the next year...
