I actually like this Metric song much more than a lot of songs in this set of matches - sultry, slow-burning synthpop that hasn't dated as poorly as plenty of the NYC garage revival throwbacks nominated - but me and my friends have played and quoted 'Wish Me Well' so much this year that it probably defines 2018 more than any other tune. "Sideman move sideways like crab, act up, get slapped ... g'away wit' your internet gas ... get silly, take the mickey with the Mac." Such a distinctly Brummie series of threats and insults, and done so over an anthemic, summertime beat. *chef's kiss* _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs.
