Ghost Town may not be bad. But this is in my opinion the song of the year 2018 the most overestimate on BEA. It is easy to prefer Courney Barnett here. Hopefulessness gets my vote.

I really want to vote for both songs here. I can hardly believe I am voting for Kanye over Courtney (who I just saw live a couple of weeks ago) but this is the only song off Ye I thought was excellent and it just beats out Hopefullessness. Although there's three other songs from Courtney's album that would have got my vote over Ghost Town.

I feel there are some striking similarities between the two songs, namely that they're charming, somewhat lazy dirges that feature some clunky lyrics and lack the necessary dynamism to make me really care about them. Both pale into comparison to similar songs in their respective artists' back catalogues, but both are pleasant and likeable. I actually like all the vocals on show in this matchup. Vote to 'Ghost Town' because it's more in my wheelhouse, but coulda gone either way, albeit without a whole lot of enthusiasm.

Then again, Courtney Barnett's track comes across as solid but inanimate background music, but it's fine enough to listen to without me eventually wanting to throw my headphones in the fire, so a tepid vote of approval here.
