I couldn’t pass up Arctic folk songs. Lioudmila Khandi’s vocals on “Yakut Song” (or “Iacoute Song”, I guess?) are phenomenal. I’d like to hear more of her music, but it doesn’t look like she’s recorded anything other than that one track.

Interesting...easily my favourite Replacements song. Affects me on a deep emotional level.
I pulled up the lyrics and gave it another spin. It is a pretty touching song about emptiness. I think I was bothered by the missed notes in the vocals the first listen, but not so much the second time around. There’s something else which bothers me, through no fault of the song’s own, but I don’t want to say what and put that connection in your head.
This album was so short I had to bundle it with Milo Goes To College and Bonus Fat...
This band doesn’t seem to have any ambitions beyond playing catchy, fun, and energetic music, but they do do those three things very well. I love the gamut these songs run, from cutting flagrancy, to bitter disgust, to sappy romance. I also love how the dial seems to slowly move from terse to catchy as the album goes on. My favorite part of the album was the last five tracks from “Silly Girl” to “Ace”, so I guess I like the catchier stuff better.
I caught myself sort of tuning out in the middle of Milo Goes To College. It’s only 23 minutes, but feels longer because it’s so dense. “Myage” and “Tony Age” were pretty choice, though.

1. Postaeolian Train Robbery by Cos
This is some next level Jazz infused Prog/ Zeuhl that had me smiling the whole time. It's wacky, it's creative, it's weird, it's surprising, it's, well, a lot of things that shouldn't work but they do.
Here's two notes of interest.
The first track sounds like it could be off of a Badbadnotgood album. I swear, just get past the 40 second mark.

If there was a complaint I would have with this album is that the closer while ambitious and somewhat moody to me at least felt like it didn't warrant its long run time. Otherwise I actually enjoyed this a lot. To the point where I feel like I'm just on catch up with Metal. Now I don't know if I venture more in the genre will this record would sour on me. But as of now I am digging on this. Now it is below Converge, that's for damn sure. But it is ahead of of Tool and SOAD which could be a hot take.
Grade:90 but could be a 95

This album was a blast, and not just because of “Oh Yeah” (which I wasn’t expecting). The first two tracks are sleazy, smoky nightclub jams, which I was fine with. At that point, I was anticipating the rest of the album to be comprised of lesser compositions in a similar vein and to be disappointed. I wasn’t disappointed. “Oh Yeah” kicks in and needs no introduction, but the album just transforms and intensifies with “Stalakdrama”, which is some sort of Floydian wandering, before yielding to “Koladi-Ola”, which was my favorite song of the day, probably. There isn’t really a bad track on the album, though.
I don’t know how particular Yello’s style is to them, but you can hear influence from Bowie and the Talking Heads and probably others I’m not keen to. There’s also a number of interesting nuggets from the album’s Wiki page, such as this one:
“Some of the songs and themes of Stella had begun as part of an operatic stage show titled Snowball that Meier had started developing in 1983...Meier told the Dutch music magazine Vinyl in an interview in April 1985 that the name for the album had been inspired by one of the characters from Snowball, saying, ‘Stella is a character of fiction. The idea is that it is a hysterical singer, sitting in a stalactite cave near Capri, singing his insane arias.’”
I’m sure some people might dismiss the album as dated dance music, or the group as pompous, but there are a number of compelling artistic details with this album that I find fascinating. I’d say it’s pretty underrated, and I’d guess it’s because of some stigma people have placed on the big hit therein.

Yep, I spun You Gotta Say Yes right after, And I’m finishing up Solid Pleasure. I didn’t find Yes as captivating as Stella, but Solid Pleasure is incredible. I’m giddy for “Downtown Samba”, and the surreal wind down into “Magneto” is brilliant. I’ll get to Claro Que Si tomorrow.

This is cool. Lots of interesting artistic choices. I can see why it's catnip to certain online music critics. However, his pursuit of the avant-garde has downsides too, in terms of songwriting and overall enjoyability. A worthwhile album, and perhaps it will grow on me further with time. 3.5/5.

As far as technical death metal goes, I'm no expert. The only thing I'm looking for in metal anyways is heavy riffage, and this album has it in spades. Some subtle elements of other metal subgenres appear on the album as well, but it's a mostly blistering combination of drum triggers and shredding guitars
