It's too early in the morning fir the new Pain of Salvation, so I'm starting my morning with good ol' jazz. Post some music that relaxes you.

My old metalhead roomie used to wake me up with powerviolence so I'm not sure this title necessarily applies.

To relax; Turiya Sings by Alice Coltrane is probably the most spacious and inviting album I've ever heard.

Right now though? Lots of ambient lately. Chihei Hatakeyama, Grouper, Julianna Barwick (Nepenthe anyway, Will never really did it for me and haven't yet listened to the new one though I saw her play a couple of times last year.) It's gotta be a specific kind of ambient though. Stars of the Lid is too dense for me to relax to though I love it (and the Tarkovsky sample in tired sounds always makes me jump) though it's brilliant stuff. Tim Hecker is a bit too "the psychological effects of megaphonics" for me to zone out to and feel calm but some of his early albums fit here for me. A Winged Victory for The Sullen is a group I had to listen to for work and their debut is very much in line with the atmosphere of Nils Frahm.

I've recently been getting into Mande which is calming but fiery. Djeli Moussa Diawara and Toumani Diabatรฉ are legends.

I'm getting a lot of peace from twee pop recently. Just from the nostalgia I associate with them in me younger days. Early Belle & Seb, early Magnetic Fields (this isn't really twee pop but I'm lazy on genre), Dolly Mixture, Beat Happening, etc.

Oh yeah Picky Picnic is calmness warped and twisted. The best creepypasta animal crossing soundtrack you've ever listened to.

Alice Coltrane's an excellent choice. New age is perfect for it. Vangelis is my favorite new age artist, but my favorite new age singer is Loreena McKennitt. Both have the only two new age albums in my top 100. Vangelis' new age is more slow and cinematic (which makes sense because he's a film score composer) so it's more left-field, but Loreena's Celtic sound is perfect for simpler, catchier new age.

Vangelis IMO is the best at so many forms of relaxing music., and he's made some of the most amazing ambient, prog electronic and new age I've ever heard. Many fans of Vangelis aren't into Oceanic which has all three styles mixed together but I say it's his third best album.
