Matana Roberts & Pat Thomas had a collab? Had no idea.
Think I gave 5 of KMRU's 2020 releases a listen. Liked them all enough apart from one which felt a little weak. Will check out the other two (haven't heard Variations [Radiophonic], didn't know about that one tbh). Completely blanked on Moor Mother's releases for the year, even the collaborations with Nicole Mitchell and Billy Woods. Gotta get on those. Will check out the Tygapaw and Cindy Lee releases too.

KMRU has been such an obsession of mine lately. Regarding variations radiophonic, idk if you heard "Variations [Installation]" last year, but that one -while enjoyable- bugged me because it was clearly originally designed as a specific kind of art installation that got cancelled because of covid, so the bandcamp release felt like kind of a square-peg-in-round-hole afterthought. Variations Radiophonic was similar but felt like I was actually listening to it as intended, and it blew my tiny little mind. idk how that one seems to have gone largely ignored. highly recommend for sure
yeah and Moor Mother kinda won 2020 imho, so many projects that have her distinct voice despite spanning such a variety of sounds and genres (granted the jazz poetry stuff is easily my favorite, at least until she makes another Fetish Bones haha). I feel like you'd probably dig the Live in Berlin show.
and yea that Cindy Lee and Tygapaw shit is also ace, Tygapaw in particular is an artist I'm following very closely atm, I have that lingering feeling that it's just a matter of time before she drops a genuine masterpiece 😲

Gave it a spin, well worth a listen regardless. It's Matana doing her thing. Not entirely sure Pat Thomas brought his stuff to the project, but it's a decent work.

I've often thought about trying to create a similar audio/visual 'art room' experience. Whenever I go to one I have a rush of ideas of what I would do... but... I need gallery space 😐 I'm not sold the gist comes across through headphones. Just added the 2019 instillation to the site... should be able to give it a spin soon.

The exciting part about the 50s is that things keep popping up because of the internet. Albums that nobody heard for 30-40 years are all of a sudden available at the click of a button. Alway stuff to dig up.

i totally feel that. back when museums were a thing one could go to those were the bits I always spent the most time in, just some amazingly creative ways people can play with sound and listening when you have control over the listening environment and all other parameters. if KRMU decides to do this exhibit again post-covid fingers crossed it makes it somewhere near me haha

forreal it's wild how many relatively obscure albums I've been able to find just on youtube. tbh thinking I might start a youtube channel for uploading obscurities I find while crate-digging

ok so also on in chart-related things, this might be a stretch but did anybody grab downloads of my charts on my old account by any chance? specifically my preservation of The Poe's chart? Because I'm looking at the CSV of it I snagged and somehow there's only 49 entries on the thing.
