Although I have listed to many female singer/songwriters over the years, Janis Ian is one I had known about but long overlooked until very recently. She had long been critically depreciated because of her moves into commercial pop, especially on her late 1970s and 1980s releases, and Rolling Stone viewed virtually all her work unfavourably. Nonetheless, although her first selftitled album is undoubtedly generic, even at fifteen she shows surprising growth on ...For All the Seasons of Your Mind, and parts of the record are like Laura Nyroโs much more famous masterpiece Eli And The Thirteenth Confession and indeed were recorded about a year earlier.
More striking than the actual music on ...For All the Seasons of Your Mind is the album cover, which clearly predates Linda Perhacsโ brilliant Parallelograms, a remarkable masterpiece that has to be one of the finest records made.
