a bit of a Pet Sounds overdose the last few days!

The album of the day is picked up automatically from recent charts, so I think the fact it was already being talked about on the forums made some people add it to their charts, which in turn made it album of the day...

Ignoring the haters, IMO this is 1 of the top 3 greatest albums of all time!
God Only Knows may well be the most perfect, beautiful thing ever recorded! Mr. Green

I do hate this album, although it doesn´t deserve it. There are good things in this album, and there is no doubt that it´s one of the most influential albums ever made. But in my opinion, this is an album that´s been surpassed by many it´s influenced. Let me put it like this:
If you want better vocal harmonies, listen to The Mamas and the papas,
If you want better arrangements (and harmonies), listen to The Zombies
If you want better melodies, listen to The Hollies (or The Turtles)
If you want better sunshine pop, listen to Sagittarius
If you want better baroque, listen to The Left banke
If you want all of the above, listen to THE BEATLES
And as for me hating this album, well, if one more person compares Brian Wilson to Mozart or Beethoven I think I´ll... Evil or Very Mad

interesting suggestions here that i'll definitely have to check out....BTW i like that your chart is all 60's stuff, i'm going to keep a look-out for that Zombies album and a Mamas & Papas one too (California Dreaming is a great song!)

Hey thank you, I´ve put a lot of effort into my chart, although it´s still a work in progress. There are some really mediocre albums on it from places 50 or so and downwards. If you decide to listen to a The mama´s... album be sure to make it either "If you can believe your eyes and ears" or "Deliver".

Trust me when I say, everyone here's chart is a work-in-progress. Laughing

This surpasses anything the Beatles did... hell, it surpasses what anyone has ever done, at least in modern music. A perfect record.
God Only Knows may be the best song ever recorded. I still always have to give it #2, though, and give #1 to "Imagine" Smile
