2 albums of 2014 I listened to:

First an album I already own/know:

Beauty & Ruin by Bob Mould
And another Bob Mould album in this round. Gone are the experimentations with electronics from the years 2000 and after a bit of an inbetween album he fully returns to good old guitar rock on this album which to me is his best in his post-Sugar years and you could easily mistake some of the tracks for Sugar tracks with as best example Tomorrow Morning which together with I Don't Know You Anu more. But the album is packed with excellent tracks of which some are equally excellent ballads. So no wonder I just have to upgrade this album from the 11th to 2nd rank of the year 2014.

And an album from my wishlist:

Nouveau Vรฉlo by Nouveau Vรฉlo
When I heard their fourth album of 2025 I knew I wanted to check out also the three other regulatory albums from this Dutch indie band I didn't know yet. This is their first regular album and it already sounds good with jangly rhythms and good songs. No real highlights here but the package sounds just fine and the album enters my year chart at the 31st rank.

And two short albums of 2015 to follow:

First an album I already own/know:

Made Violent EP by Made Violent
In fact only an EP because it only has 5 tracks and a bit of a mixture between The Strokes and fairly plain britpop. Nothing special but there is a lot of enthusiasm here so it is good for the 39th rank (coming from the 42nd).

And an album from my wishlist:

Ripe 4 Luv by Young Guv
First album of this band which has been formed out of member of many other bands (of which even Fucked Up) but on this album they were still looking for the sound that fitted them best. So exactly half is made up of a kind of soul/pop that doesn't really fit them and the other half of the powerrock with lots of ties to the sixties which they would pursue on their next albums and which is really good. So really a mixed bag but enters at the 56th rank.

Two albums of 2016 I listened to:

First an album I already own/know:

Say Yes! A Tribute To Elliott Smith by Various Artists
The music of Elliott Smith can't destroyed and most of the covers stay fairly close to the original but only three really shine: the one where Amanda Palmer is hammering away on her piano on Pictures Of Me, Yuck's version of Bled White and J Mascis's version of Waltz No. 2. Overall a good tribute and the album moves up from the 24th to the 10th rank.

and an album from my wishlist:

Zanzibar by Fucked Up
This is a movie soundtrack and this is an instrumental album which means we have to miss the beautiful voice of . But it's still a great guitar album if you weed out the boring bits. Good for the 56th rank in my year chart.

Two albums of 2017 I listened to:

First an album I already know/own:

Americana by Ray Davies
As the title suggests, Ray Davies goes americana and a bit country & western, not really my favorite genre. He still knows to write a good tune (Poetry, Rock 'n Roll Cowboys, Wings Of Fantasy) and his lyrics are still very interesting to hear but the overall mellowness of the album is hurting it a bit. Not his best album but still good for the 69th rank (coming from the 78th rank).

And an album from my wishlist:

Reflections by Nouveau Vรฉlo
And another album by this Dutch band and just solid indie rock, nothing more, nothing less and entering my year chart at the 38th rank.

Two albums of 2018 I have been listening to:

First an album I already own/know:

Songs Of Praise by Shame
One of the big postpunk bands and I must say I liked this album more when it was just released which makes it decrease from the 16th to the 72nd rank.

And an album from my wishlist:

Every Little Thought by Hurry (US)
A flawless powerrock album of a band which started out playing much fuzzier guitar music but are much better in playing those cleaner guitars which make their great songs shine even better. The album enters at the 40th rank of my year chart.

Two albums of 2019 I listened to:

First an album I already own/know:

Peuk by Peuk
Great album from a great Belgian punk band although I liked better the first time so this album goes from the 10th to the 27th rank.

And an album from my wishlist:

All In Good Time by Eddy Current Suppression Ring
This newest album of this pubpunk band is not really their best and lands at the 104th rank of my year chart so just not good enough to be in my top 100 of the year.

Two albums of 2020 I listened to with two good jangly indie albums from neighboring countries of Belgium:

First an album I already own/know:

Juillet by En Attendant Ana
First this Franch band which really sounds fresh with also addition to horns to their interesting guitar sound. A really good album with Enter My Body (Lilith) as the best song. And better than on the first listens so the album moves up from the 65th to the 16th rank.

And the last Nouveau Vรฉlo album from my wishlist:

Bogland by Nouveau Vรฉlo
And the last album I'm listening to from this Dutch band I'm starting to discover and also very good indie which enters my year chart at the 66th rank.
