Great that most of the top 1,000 is mostly covered off & making very good progress 😎 Over time, the threshold will be raised to increase coverage and improve the chances of an anniversary happening every day (dates aren't evenly distributed due to artists generally not preferring to release albums at certain times of year due to marketing tactics etc). Need to have a closer look and check the current state of play. (EDIT: 309 320 days covered so far)

Oh snap, I was busy when this thread started and missed it until now. Anyway I think it's a great idea to give pre-2004 albums their exact release date and have anniversaries (maybe in place of AotD, which I think was proposed?). I provided a fair amount of data mods way back in the day, but I found a lot of work I was doing uninspiring...I was adding information on albums someone added to the site who didn't bother to add info themselves. They simply added the artist and the album name and left everything else blank. And it was almost entirely albums only that user had even heard of. It sort of felt like doing someone's job, and for what? So they could pad their custom and yearly charts with albums nobody else knows about? I got bored and stopped doing it. But for this project, I'm here to help. I think it's a good cause to finally put exact day release dates on the overall Top 10,000 albums and especially the Top 1,000...albums that have a lot of support and listeners. Doing data moderation looks a little different since the last time I did it, and as a level 7 non-data moderator, it looks like I could only do 10 data moderations before I got pulled over. But hey, I just filled in 10 exact day release dates for 10 pre-2004 albums. Only a drop in the bucket but happy to help. I'll do 10 more tomorrow once today's are approved.

There's a slow trickle of albums into unmoderated, but if you filter on 'invalid release dates', you’ll see the entire list of qualifying albums (top 1,000 right now until they are done). In terms of AOTD, the proposal is to switch to an album anniversary to ground it in the real world. Once we’ve populated the top ~2,000, I think we’d be in a position to begin doing it as there should be at least one album to pick from for every day of the year (and the background work should have been completed to switch things over e.g. updated social media posts etc). A lot of other things are being developed in the background, so not the only thing going on. Top 10,000 is the ultimate goal (probably half of those are older than 2004), and once that target is reached, ongoing data maintenance should be minimal and only needed if an album prior to 2004 enters the top 10,000 for the first time (for newer albums, release dates are required by default).
