Updated page from Scaruffi, Fernando Pessoa, among the most original 20th century poets. Perhaps he will continue updating this and others, with ratings? I have only read some of his works before but fascinating and great to see Scaruffi highlighting him. He also posted a YouTube intro on him (link top of the bio)

Do you by chance have any general advice/tips for "getting into" poetry? Literature, and especially poetry, have always been a major weak point for me.
Though the main reason may be because I often struggle to understand meaning behind colorful language/metaphors/etc., so it's more of a barrier than most literature which is more "direct". Even with music, I usually don't dive into lyrics (unless I'm really enamored by the song itself) due to struggling understanding what the lyricist is actually saying.
I wasn't one who grew up reading for pleasure so that probably didn't help lol

Not quite sure where I would start precisely, but certainly with modern native language (presumably English) poets (get them from Scaruffi’s lists). And for the most part, those works with one plus symbol “+” will tend to be easier on avg (not as multiplied, metaphorical, prismatic, in meaning, interpretation…) than those with two “++” or three “+++”.
The likes of Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Langston Hughes should mark some good starting points…
For literature, perhaps Fitzgerald like Great Gatsby, Orwell 1984, Animal Farm, perhaps Clarkes 2001, maybe Tolkien, perhaps Alice in Wonderland…
You can easily find YouTube summaries, analyses, in many cases even visualized audio readings, of these and poetry that can also help … or just google for the likes of these if YT doesn’t satisfy… lots of poetry analysis, sites, abound…
Having a dictionary around and annotations is a good idea too, for certain meanings of terms that might not be the most common or obvious or even no longer in general use, and for more complex sections that may need some annotated notes to better grasp in its various themes, layers, meanings…
But like any art, it takes enough interest and discipline and thirst for knowledge and for more thoroughly experiencing for oneself the meaning, profundity, emotion, content, etc, of the work.
Also, feeling some obligation to give out recommendations, lists, to provide ratings and rankings and an (un)healthy desire and determination to get these right, can help with one’s sense of discipline and motivation 😉 _________________ Best Classical Best Films Best Paintings
A staggering performance of Shostakovich’s stunning Piano Trio … my long time favorite rendition — very very highly recommended even if you’ve heard others and no matter how many times — none I know of can match this one… _________________ Best Classical Best Films Best Paintings
