  • Post subject: Influenced by or imitating Radiohead?

I heard this on the radio and I thought it was a b-side from an OK Computer single that I've never heard before.
I'd like to hear your opinion:
This guy says he's influenced by Radiohead, among others.
Do you think "influenced" is a good word to describe this?

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was referring to Muse...which I do agree Matthew Bellamy tries too hard to sound like Thom Yorke, but they are a great and totally different band.

But to the actual point of this thread, this is just a total Radiohead rip off, except that the song sucks so it was a failure on many levels.

I used to think that too- the whole Muse is a lot like Radiohead - but then I realized they are totally different. Bellamy has this opera voice that Thom never uses. I think they are both very emotional hard breathing singers, which is similar.

Sorry that got my attention more than the other thing.

Bellamy used to cite Radiohead as an influence, but when he got criticized for sounding too much like Yorke he stopped mentioning them as an influence. And despite superficially sounding like Yorke (as so many bands' singers did from 1998-2005 or so) his style is completely different and, frankly, his singing voice is purer and better than Yorke's. He still cites Queen as a major influence, and really the grandiose style he uses in his vocals is far more akin to Freddie Mercury than anyone else.
