Antonio Piazzollo, bandoneon player. The album is called Libertango.

You're on your own.

Libertango by Astor Piazzolla, nominated by HappyMeal.

In fairness, I prob'ly shouldn't say much about the Thompsons either.

I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight by Richard & Linda Thompson, nominated by BEA.

Wow. I really like I Want to See the Bright Lights, but my first listen to Libertango is totally blowing me away. Reminds me of Ennio Morricone a little, but it's clear that Piazzolla had an influence on Mr Bungle's Disco Volante (an album that shaped my childhood). This is gonna be tough, but leaning Libertango.

Bright Lights is an absolute masterpiece that deserves more attention than it gets. "The Cavalry Cross" is on several of my personal playlists. Libertango is very nice for what it is, but not my scene, for the most part.

I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight...

Piazzolla is a master in his craft but so are the Thompsons. This is a tough one...

Edit: The is the most deserving, most satisfying draw I voted so far. Two albums of unequaled beauty... ๐Ÿ‘

I enjoyed Libertango, but I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight is one of my favourite albums of all-time. I just adore Richard Thompson. I've seen him live on numerous occasions, and he never disappoints. And, along with Unhalfbricking, this album is his best work. I just love the way it manages to recall some Olde English time, as though the pair are heading down Gin Lane to get absolutely battered, maybe with a couple of pigs for bartering. And the guitar work throughout is just fantastic, nobody managed to define "folk-rock" as well as Thompson did, literally taking old English folk melodies and working them seamlessly into a decidedly rock template. Then there's the sincere, unpretentious, simple beauty of their voices, never trying to be something they aren't or do something they can't. 'Withered and Died' is just stunning. Eh, most of this album is just stunning. There's a melancholy air to it, but it's not a resigned melancholy, it's something more urgent - not anger or frustration. I can't put my finger on it, but this album sort of reminds me of being fully prepared to spend a day in bed, sad at the world, only for the sun to poke through your window and convince you to get yourself down to the pub pronto. I'm talking bollocks, but I'd be happy to see this album win the whole tournament.

Totally this. (Although I think it gets a fair amount of attention from most music critics.) Great mini-review, Skinny!

Ahem. I'm sorry, NV. You're in the wrong thread. Nico's The End vs. Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain is right around the corner.
